About Me

Facts: Astralia

Welcome to the Astralia MySpace page. The name Astralia may mean a lot of things, also an Italian band started in 1999. But "this Astralia" is a visual and musical project that started in Norway as early as 1969 or 1970.
From 1970 and up until now Astralia has recorded four albums with very special music. Think Johann Sebastian Bach meets the Residents, who again meets all the psychedelia of the sixties and seventies...combined!
But in truth, there is nothing like Astralia music. And apart from some distributed tapes and cassettes during the eighties and nineties, this is the first time Astralia is available to the public.
The Astralia music features no sequencing, it is partially based on free improvisation recordings. CD's are unavailable. This MySpace page is the best place to listen songs and music. Keep visiting us for updates.
The Astralia creator dislikes computers, and he does not use internet. If you want to contact him, leave a message/comment here or send an e-mail to:
[email protected]

Visual art

Background and profile picture are Astralia artwork. For other examples see slides of Astralia album covers below. If slide show refuses to start, try reloading. All pictures are made by hand, and over a timespan of several years. They are from a different time/age than MySpace, internet and computers.
Internet links Even though Astralia doesn't use the internet, we will put up a few links to some favorites:

Facts about Astralia :

Astralia - on MySpace called Astralianorway - is the work of the artist Jomar Johansen (born 1952).

He plays keyboards, percussion and wind instruments. He paints, draws and he has created his own world: Astralia.

In the seventies, Johansen was one of the founders of Compendium Records in Oslo, Norway. He used to produce music and play in bands, but in the last decades he has been working on Astralia.

Johansen is fond of synths with mini-keys. He uses Yamaha FM synths as well as digital/hybrid analogue synths. He also plays percussion, his trusted saxophone and he sings too.
