As an explosively high-energy improvising group, Hip-O has been storming stages and dropping jaws in Indianapolis since 2005. Appearances at local venues, including the Music Mill, Jazz Kitchen, Mouse Trap, Spin, and the Melody Inn have established Hip-O as an accomplished local act. Regional music festivals including Slamology and Toiletry as well as performances across the Midwest, are rapidly propelling Hip-O to the top of the regional Jam Band Circuit.
Hip-O was formed by Jeremy (guitar) and Eric (bass) in 2004 as a three piece rock band. Forming together with Adam Long (drums), the group took off rather quickly and recorded their first album with songs influenced by Jazz, Blues, and Rock. Keyboardist David Hammes came along shortly thereafter and was added to the group in 2005, creating a more diverse sound. Anthony Avant (saxes, flute) joined the group soon after hip-O recorded their second album "hip-O butter", adding a new dimention to the hip-O sound. The bands recent line-up changes including Leon Kittrell (drums) have enabled the already potent ensemble to push live shows to unprecedented levels of power and sophistication.
With no show the same, hip-O never has difficulty engaging a crowd. Pulling audiences in with funky grooves and improvisational jams, the band loves to entertain. Most find that once they enter the room of a hip-O show, it very difficult to leave until the band is finished playing. Come see for yourself at the next show...
