HotFreeLayoutsDeon Yates has been entertaining audiences all over the United States and the world all of his life. Deon started playing music at the age of eight at Guyton elementary school on the east side of Detroit. From there he went on to Remus Robinson middle school where he was introduced to jazz by teachers Donald Washington and Hosea Taylor whom Deon credits as being his musical father. Taylor took Deon under his wing and the rest is history. While at Robinson middle school he met and quickly became best friends with a young Rodney Whitaker (World renowned Jazz Bassist). Deon and Rodney Joined the critically acclaimed, cutting edge performance ensemble: Bird~Trane~Sco~Now, where they later met, a then unknown, James Carter. Deon has won several competitions and awards throughout his school musical career, performing professionally with some of Detroit's top jazz musicians by the age of 14 including Marcus Belgrave, Donald Walden, Harold McKinney, Regina Carter, Roy Brooks and Kenny Cox just to name a few. Deon took some time off from the performing scene for a while to pursue another of his passions, entertainment production. As a Stage Manager he toured with the godfather of the gospel play genre, Michael Matthews, on such plays as Wicked Ways, Momma Don't, Come Out of The Rain and No Place To Lay My Head. Deon always carried a saxophone on the road and you could catch him on any given night down in the pit jamming with the band during a performance. As a television producer Deon produced several shows for Barden Cablevision including a dance show entitled "Heatwave" and a live music show "Take it To The Stage". Deon still works in the television and film industry and in 2001 was nominated for an Emmy Award for original music he produced for a Detroit Public Television program. As a concert producer, Deon has put together large venue events with top artist like Detroit's own Kem and Dwele as well as national Artist like Diane Schure. He has also performed as a special guest on concerts with Kem and Dwele. As a saxophone player, Deon is one of the few instrumentalist to master the circular breathing technique that allows him to hold one single note without stopping for longer than 5 minutes, it is a show stopper you must see and hear to beleive. Deon is a multi-talented, multi-skilled producer, director editor and musician who is back to make yet another mark on the music scene with the release of his sophomore release "One More Try".
