Jeff Newton AKA Spike is Das PK, a Manchester born Hip Hop Producer/Engineer. Spike first got into beatz in the early eighties, heavily influenced by breakdance and body poppin' and even taught his mates how to bust some moves at the local youth club, Spike then naturally evolved into becoming a 'raver'(Yes white gloves and all that!!!). In 1990 he joined the Queens Lancashire Regiment and signed up for the Corp of Drums learning to play the sidedrum, bugle and flute also learning about 4/ 4 beats. In 1996 after refusing to give up the ravin' and all it entailed Spike returned to civvy street reincarnated as a hard house DJ, and moved to Devon. Taken under John 'TNT' Tingleys wing Spike ended up DJing with the likes of Easygroove, Rachel Shock, Graeme Eden, and Madam Zu amongst others. The little free time Spike had left was spent playing the free party scene aswell as running his own Ransom club nights with DJ Zeb. in 1997 along with Zeb, Ransom Studios was formed producing really poor house tracks using a DJX,Decks and a PC that couldn't run Cubase properly, obviously it grew and in 1998 Spike got introduced to Don Coyotee, a Hip Hop Producer with the $ewer$ide Crew and converted to Hip Hop , Co-producing The Four Seasons EP and forming The NDA(North Devon Alliance)along with Mr Kishi, as well as engineering on occasion for'The Mild West'. From that moment on many tracks were made, critisized, and complimented until in 2004 SS studios and Ransom studios joined together forming Yard 1, the biggest thing to hit North Devon, running urban workshops for local kids from all backgrounds. for more information check us out on www.myspace.com/theyard1project.
