About Me

This page is a keyhole to my private rough demos, unfinished sketches, unresolved compositions or stuff not being played by, or suitable for my rock band Y. It's like the posthumous Jeff Buckley releases but without the drowning (well not in that way anyway). It's not arty, cool, aware of fashion or infected with influence referencing. It's just me in my slippers with a cup of tea. I just thought why not, why does everything have to be so produced and finished, and have so many formalities to get an airing? (good on ya myspace!) If I waited for things to be perfect they'd never see the light of day. And, well I'm constantly amazed by the people from all over the world who make friends with me and introduce me to their amazing art, so this page is worth it just for that alone. Like Leonard Cohen says "Ring the bells that still can ring, forget your perfect offering, there's a crack, a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in"
My earliest vivid memory is a musical one. As I lay in the cradle at somewhere between 6 - 9 mths old my mother would pull a draw string on a baby blue toy hanging from the ceiling that would play some tune like a music box. It mesmerized me, I loved it and would cry out until she came back and pulled the chord again. When I could crawl I progressed on to pulling all the pots out of the cupboard and setting up a drum kit on the kitchen floor (when I grew older my mother showed me all the dents!). I've played piano naively since about 4yrs old, I'd just get lost in it, sort of travel with it. (my favourite instrument). My mother was a jazz singer always singing around the house and "lullabying" me to sleep. My Italian father played lots of the crooners like Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jerry Vale and Frankie Lane so I can remember even from the age of 4 or so, impressing myself by singing in a low crooner voice, ha ha. Then one day, at around 8yrs old, I was home from school sick with the flue, all drugged up on pharmaceuticals, I'd found some of my Aunties records, and well "discovered" a rabbit hole called "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". Needless to say things were never quite the same after that.
I was born in Queensland, Australia and grew up on the rim of the worlds largest extinct volcano, Mt Warning, with deep gorges, beautiful granite outcrops and rich volcanic soil (banana and suger cane country). I am the grandson of one of Australia's most legendary and celebrated boxers, Geoff "Spud" Murphy or as he was known "Tommy Burns", his fights could draw over 20, 000 people and are still celebrated today. He was a pin-up boy and national celebrity during the 40's/ 50's going on to become an actor. I have a film he was in called "Sons of Mathew". He went to Hollywood for some screen tests and worked as a correspondent, reporting back to an Australian paper with insider reports from the glamourous side of life there and even dating Joan Crawford. Another famous relative is my cousin Massimo "Miki" Biasion, a legendary world champion rally car driver.
I'm a little less notorious than that but have won awards for short film soundtracks, and even acted in an award winning short film. I am an audio visual technician by day setting up conference and boardrooms, home automation systems and cinemas and have spent several years on construction sites at the crack of dawn, in steel capped boots, hard hat and safety vest (so yeah, I'm real man, mate!). Prior to this, after finishing yr 12 high school at the age of 15, I studied graphic design and illustration and worked as such for several years afterwards.
Currently I am producing an album for Y and spend alot of time at my recording studio, "Rock Solid Studio"
On a personal note..... For as long as I can remember, I've been trying to come to grips with being here. What/where/why is this place? Who/what/why am I? What are these imperatives like attraction, love, the need for validation, identity, placement etc. I find it almost impossible to forget my "predicament". I've read the Carlos Castaneda series many times and engage in some of the practices, like lucid dreaming (from where some of my songs emanate). I've explored all kinds of literature on the subject of being/ becoming. I am currently digesting/ road testing, the Conversations with God series, which in a fundamental way is at loggerheads with Castaneda. The Toltec sorcerery practices are very exclusive as in, a select few "make it" (with intense solitary hard work), others are "eaten"/ destroyed, whilst the God of Neil Donald Walsch is very inclusive, as in, we are all the one person exploring different aspects of ourself, and ultimately all wind up at the same place, Unity. In my practicing of both these philosophies I'd have to say the latter is the better solution for world harmony though. Although I don't like to present myself as a "spiritual" person as such, these types of wonderings do drive alot of my lyric writing and ultimately the energy surging forth into musical expression
May you who stumble apon this page appreciate this material in the light of what it is, ie: half baked notions, notations, and well, just airing out some stuff gathering dust in the cupboard. The End.
