About Me

I created this profile to share the funny stories of dealing with my aging, nearly blind mother (age 89) & her companion (Lew), who is in the initial stages of Alzheimers. Please understand I love my mother very much. We are very close and have always been. Ok, there were a few years when I was in high school, that not only did I not like my parents, ONLY because they were my parents, but I was embarassed when my friends would tell me they liked my parents. It was a phase.
Now our roles have changed. In many ways, I'm the mother & she's the daughter. She's even said this to me, a few times.
I know my situation is not unique. I know MANY people are or have been dealing with this situation. But you must admit, sometimes, the scenarios are just plain funny. (When you get past the frustration.)
IOW, this is my vent site. ;-) If you're new to Myspace and/or blogging, please read the blogs from first/oldest to last/newest. And God help me, if anyone in my family ever sees this!

My Interests

Computer technology. I've been a computer "programmer" for over 30 years. Our dogs have had their own web pages since 1997. The first WYSIWYG html editor I used was Adobe PageMill. There was no other, at that time. I must go take my Geritol, now.

Each time you visit this page, a random song will play from my playlist. The playlist currently has about 50 songs. Each song is a favorite of mine, so it will show you a bit about my taste in music. ;-)
The jukebox should be working all the time now.

"Doing It Right"

The past year has been an evolution.  It's ironic because in some ways, I think my siblings don't see it, because they aren't here.  They don't see the changes that one notices when up close...

Low vision, puzzles & software

One of the issues I've been trying to help my mother with, this past year is her vision loss.  As I've mentioned before, she has wet macular degeneration.  Not uncommon in someone her age &a...

Staying (getting?) organized when parenting your parents Part 2

Today, my mother specificially stated, when I'm out with her, I'm to pay for her expenses, using her money.  IOW, one more step towards being my daughter, since she will no longer be responsible ...

Staying (getting?) organized when parenting your parents

I'm obsessive compulsive at heart.  Not to the point where it intereferes with my life but certainly to the point where it annoys those who know me well.  Therefore, I tend to go in cycles.&...

PYP

Parenting Your Parents Pretty much says it all.  But when you're new to this, you don't think of it that way.  My first glimpse of PYP was when my friend, Wendy, sent me CDs she ordered from...

Unsolved Mysteries

I tried to file this under the category of FAMILY.  Yes, there is a category of FRIENDS, but none for FAMILY.  GFF. I remember when I was ~8 or 9 years old, declaring at the dinner...

Viewpoints

I am the only progeny of my mother or Lew's, living in the same state they do.  I am also the youngest (at 50).  I'm the only one who has not yet retired.  Which means I'm the one who p...

My father...

I rarely talk about my father.  It's not because I don't love him.  I still love him.  In many ways, I'm just like he was.  Growing up, I was a "Daddy's Girl". But he died 26 years...

OT: funny license plate

Some of you have seen this already, so bear with me.  Remember many years ago, when many people had license plate covers stating, "My other car is a Rolls Royce"? Well, about 20 years ago, my hu...

She's still got a sense of humor!

A few weeks ago, toward the end of a "big chore" day with my mother (IE doctor's apt, bank, grocery shopping), my mother was tired, frustrated & stressed.  She was hanging onto a belt loop on...
