Frederic BOREY

About Me

After a long classical studies cursus, I came to jazz by the inflence of Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Jerry Bergonzi, Rich Perry. Today, I am also listening to Chris Cheek and many guys from the Fresh Sound New Talent's label.
I share my life between teaching and playing. I manage a Jazz Department in the Music School of Belfort, where I teach improvisation, workshops and big-band.
I also teach in the Didier Lockwood Music Center (Paris).
Next to that, I promote a Jazz Festival in Delle (France/90), where I have invited Kenny Garrett, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Barretto, Bill Carrothers, Bill Stewart, Erik Truffaz, David Linx...and a Jazz Club too where I shared great moments by listening or sometimes jamming with Jerry Bergonzi, Rick Margitza, Ravi Coltrane, Dre Pallemaerts, Franck Amsallem, Jim Snidero, Michael Felberbaum, Zool Fleisher, Denis Leloup, Pierre DeBethmann, Jean Pierre Como, François Theberge, Stéphane Guillaume, Pierre Drevet, Jeff Boudreaux, Sarah Morrow, Eric Barret, Simon Goubert, Hervé Sellin, Manuel Rocheman...
Next to leading my two own groups, Frederic Borey Group and Argentieri - Borey - Tissot UNITRIO .
: I play in many other formations like a sideman with musicians like Roger "Kemp" Biwandu, Lionel Loueke, Denis Leloup, Olivier Gatto, Lydia Filipovic, Camelia Ben Naceur, Frederic Monino, Emmanuel Bex, Sylvain Beuf, Zool Fleisher, François Laizeau, Pierre Olivier Govin, Claude Egea, Marc Michel LeBevillon, Benoît Stasiaczyk...
Some few words about me
"Fred BOREY sounds totally comfortable in an organ trio setting. His music is genuine and warm. He doesnt try to dazzle you off your feet with technique but impresses you with is in the moment improvising and honesty. The tunes are very well situated to the dynamic duo of Benoît and Andre. It is structured but very open sounding. They know how to create an atmosphere with plenty of space for Fred to develop his statements. It sounds like the trio has been playing together for some time. I also enjoyed the sound of Freds tenor and soprano saxophone in relation to the mix. Masterfully done". Jerry BERGONZI (Mars 2002 )
"The main strengths in Fred Borey's music are his beautiful sound, melodic development and his sense of space; qualities which are fundamental yet often ignored. Leader of an extremely solid group, Fred Borey's original sound and creative compositions are highlighted. A huge success! " Jerome SABBAGH (June 2006)
"In addition to being a saxophonist, Fred Borey is a composer with a unique voice. The few occasions that I have played with him have been moments of musical partnership and joy. Fred is a star who will shine on the international jazz scene in the years to come." Lionel LOUEKE
