About Me

Frederic Monino, a self taught musician, took up the electric bass at age 15. In 1988 he began to devote himself entirely to jazz and improvised music, playing with various well known artists in the south of France like Siegfried Kessler,Michel Marre,Tony Pagano, Gérard Pansanel, Philippe Petrucciani, Denis Fournier etc.
Selected for the Lumiere Big Band by Laurent Cugny in 1991, Frédéric got the chance to further his experience in Paris where he recorded with the Antoine Illouz quintet, participated in the actress Clementine Celarié’s flamenco ensemble...
In 1994, he became a member of the "French National Jazz Orchestra" under the direction of Laurent Cugny. He played in the 10th anniversary celebration of the orchestra along with former conductors such as François Jeanneau, Claude Barthelemy, Denis Badault and Antoine Herve who composed a work for the five string bass and the big band for the occasion. As a member of the French National Jazz Orchestra, he participated in the "Montpellier and Radio-France music festival, playing with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra. The award winning national orchestra was honoured for the album "Reminiscing" in 1996, by Jazzman Magazine, as one of “the ten best albums of the year” and the "Boris Vian Academy prize for jazz.” The orchestra won the "Golden Django" award for the best French jazz orchestra in 1997.
Frédéric regularly appears in the French and European Jazz circuit. A gifted bass player, he has multiplied his artistic collaborations as a sideman, playing everything from Mediterranean to Brazilian, traditional to variety, improvised to contemporary, and from jazz to flamenco. Frederic Monino has worked with many and various international musicians: Emmanuel Bex, Monica Passos, Jean-marc Padovani, Olivier Ker Ourio,Marcia Maria, Betsy Jolas, Juliette Greco, Esperanza Fernandez, Houria Aichi, Antoine Herve, Didier Lockwood,Maria Schneider, Jorge Pardo, Lucky Peterson, Francois Jeanneau, Bobby Rangell, Stefano di Battista, Sylvain Luc, Louis Winsberg, Claude Barthelemy, Serge Lazarevitch, Philippe Deschepper, David Linx, Baly Othmani, Clifford Jarvis, Kevan Chemirani, Franck Tortiller, Jean-michel Pilc, Antonello Salis, François Laizeau, Stephane Huchard, Patrice Héral, Ramon Lopez, etc ...
His various facets as composer and inspired musician reveal the eclectic nature of his musical encounters; an abundant, wide-ranging career, resulting, today, in a mature, pertinent bass, dedicated to improvisation, sharing and musical quality.
