How Manga took over the World 13 March – 27 Sept 2008
The unique graphic art-form of Manga is explored through its manifestation in everyday life in the 21st century at this new exhibition on our first floor. The exhibition explores Manga’s influence in shaping contemporary culture, with something for everyone, from kids to adults; it offers a whistle stop introduction to Manga for novices as well as plenty to keep hard core fans immersed. Visitors will discover Cute Manga, Action Manga, Manga in Art, Fashion and Design, Manga as communication and Erotic Manga – for over 18s only! More information

NEW - STEP BACK IN TIME WITH URBIS' NEW MAGICAL MUSIC TOUR... The February and March dates are now sold out! But do not fear, we have a new timetable for April-June

If you wish you'd been a teenager in the 60s then Urbis has a brand new tour for you!
Starting from Urbis at 10am every other Saturday from 5th April, the 60s Magical Music Tour will take visitors out around the city to some of the key sites from Manchester's musical heyday.
Discover where all the star acts such as The Hollies, The Who and Jimi Hendrix played on the circuit!
Visit the spots where Manchester's Northern Soul crowd used to hang out, and the celebrated haunts like the Oasis club where entry cost 25p, and find out how the Twisted Wheel kept its music Manchester's best loved secret!
If you still have 60s clothes in your wardrobe then why not get in to the spirit of the era and come in costume! There’ll even be a taster of the music discussed as the tour is accompanied by a soundtrack featuring some of the hits of the decade.
The tour will last approximately 2 hours and finish at the Twisted Wheel, near Piccadilly Train Station.

Factory Records Tour

Sat 6th,13th and 20th Oct. 4pm - Tickets £3
Walk in the footsteps of Manchester’s music history with Urbis’ new Factory Records Tour.
The tour will guide you through sites that played a key role in the Factory Records story. Stopping off firstly where it all began at the Free Trade Hall (the venue of the legendary first Sex Pistols gig), the tour will then go on to visit the site of the original Hacienda nightclub, MICC (formerly G-mex) and Factory HQ.
See Factory’s influence on the city first hand and explore the history behind the music we love.
