in celebration of Manchester music

About Me

Manchester District Music Archive has teamed up with electrofunkroots to bring a marathon celebration of Manchester's 1980s Electro-Funk and B-Boy scene to Islington Mill on Saturday 30th August 4pm-3am.
The event, led by pioneering DJ and producer Greg Wilson, will explore the impact of this seminal underground movement through films, talks and music.
Greg will be hosting Q&As with key figures from the era, including Hewan Clarke, Colin Curtis, Chad Jackson and Mike Shaft, followed by the first ever public screening of Tim 'Bones' Forde's life-affirming film, 'The Birth of the British B-Boy', a 40-minute documentary about Manchester's legendary breakdance troupe Broken Glass Street Crew.
The event will climax with a club night featuring the scene's most important DJs and dancers, from 10pm-3am.
Daytime: Free admission from 4PM
Club night: Ticket only after 10PM

Tickets for the club night are £6 (plus booking fee) and are available NOW from:

Manchester District Music Archive is a not-for-profit organisation run by a handful of volunteers.
We love the part music plays in people's lives and we love the part Manchester plays in people's music.
We are pro-active
We put on music based events and exhibitions
We film interviews with the movers and shakers
We let the fans tell the world their stories
If you're a musician, if you're in a band or you're a DJ from Greater Manchester you can upload photos and scans to our site and submit a biography and website links. If you're a club promotor you can add scans of your flyers. If you're a graphic designer involved with sleeve or flyer design, please add your sketches and your finished pieces.
If you're simply a punter and a fan of music from Manchester - no matter where you live in the world, our site gives you the opportunity to tell your story about how Manchester music has touched your life.
We are the only site where music from the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester comes together to form something HUGE. Whether you love the Hallé Orchestra, The Hollies, Harlem Spirit or The Haçienda, this site brings it all together to celebrate the phenomenon that is 'Manchester Music'.
Please take a look at our website, become a member and start sharing!
If you love music, you have been affected by Greater Manchester!
