Influences: ~ M U S I C ~ I am most inspired after seeing a live performance, which I do regularly. Jamming heavily influences my music too. Well-known artists which have inspired me include ~ Patsy Cline (I grew up listening to her music and her song Crazy was the first song I ever performed live, as a 15 year old at the Kinross Woolshed) ~ Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) ~ Bob Dylan ~ Jeff Buckley ~ Niel Young ~ Jnis Joplin ~ King Tubby ~ Joni Mitchell ~ Nick Cave ~ Jimi Hendrix ~ Leonard Cohen ~ Paul Kelly ~ Joni Mitchell ~ Beethoven and Debussy but many local Melbourne bands have influenced my sound as well (see friend's list). I also can't deny the influence of pop music in my formative years, New Kids on the Block and I was a closet Spice Girls fan too.~ W O R D S ~ really inspire me and have definitely influenced my songwriting style: Holy/Spiritual texts sustain my inspiration most of all and fiction as well as non-fiction also feed into my writing styles. Some books/authors I have read recently that have made a big impact on me include ~ Herman Hesse ~ Thomas Kuhn ~ George Orwell's stories and essays ~ Primo Levi 'If this is a Man' ~ Edward Said 'Orientalism' ~ "Exterminate all the Brutes" (Sven Lindqvist) ~ Michel Foucault (all of his' work is amazing - really mindblowing stuff) ~ Alasdair MacIntyre (an eccentric philospher with some way out but amazing ideas) ~ Arthur Koestler's 'Darkness at Noon'
