Add to My Profile | More Videos“The Shane Downey Project†has been in creation for almost 15 years, many of them sitting on the trusty futon, or the Suburban Brisbane Balcony, with guitar in one hand, beer in the other, writing songs with friends, or by myself. “The Shane Downey Project's†style is kind of unique…a bit of a musical extravaganza…and I don’t use “extravaganza†lightly, with plenty of music styles as influence including roots/ blues/ rock/ folk/ jazz with a modest splash of country/ rockabilly/ bluegrass blended together in one blissful story of love life and music.Shane has always had an eclectic taste in music, and from the time he was 14, began listening to the likes of John Lee Hooker, BB King, Elvis Presley, Johnnie Cash, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and The Beatles. A huge amount of 80’s and 90’s bands and musicians influenced his writing as well, none more clearly audible than the Violent Femmes. His passion for music and life, his love of entertaining a crowd, and his want/ need for fame and fortune…have culminated him into the songwriter and artist he is today.Shane has been writing original tunes since he was 14 or 15 years old, soon after his parents bought him his first guitar. Over the years he have drawn inspiration from many means, and from many artists.“After seeing the Violent Femmes live twice this year, I realised that I drew more inspiration and influence from them, than any other band or musician i have ever heard. (Even though I didn't know it until then) so I figured, why not do what I came here for? Lets write some bluegrass tunes.... yeah, not my original thoughts either to be honest, but over the last couple of months, that’s what seems to be coming out. I have always enjoyed blues, and grassroots music, the music that makes you believe you are in a train “A-Rollin down the tracks†for every beat of the song. And there was my new directionâ€
