About Me
Alan began playing the piano at the age of eight and guitar at eleven. By sixteen, he was playing in local bands and began working in a recording studio shortly after. Alan went on to study Composition, Analysis and History of Music at Lancashire Polytechnic and continued studying the classical guitar in which he gained an ALCM qualification from the London College of Music. In 1990 Alan set up his own studio, West Orange, and has had incredible success working with many and diverse artists including Cornershop (3 albums, 1 gold record single), multi-platinum-selling singer Russell Watson, Badly Drawn Boy (2 Singles), Rick Guard (international hit single), platinum-selling opera singer Jon Christos and hundreds of local artists producing everything from rap to folk, from death metal to electro pop. Alan's reputation has resulted in him working for some of the most well-respected record labels and publishers including Sony, Beggars Banquet, Universal, Domino and XL Recordings. Alan has composed and recorded music for two films, written and produced for TV, made hundreds of radio jingles and is an accomplished arranger writing for full orchestra, string sections and big bands. In 2005 he played at the Albert Hall with Jon Christos and the English Chamber Orchestra and in 2006 had one of his orchestral arrangements performed live on BBC Radio 2 by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis. Carl subsequently conducted several of Alan's arrangements including 'A Fantasia On British Football Songs' performed by the Hallé Orchestra in May 2007 and due to be performed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2008.
