George Tisdale

About Me

If asked whether or not dedicating his life to song was a choice, George Tisdale would likely smile and respond with a resounding No. He might even say that, raised in a family environment as heavily infused with music as his, he was destined to sing and encourage souls across the land. Surrounded by such relatives as his uncle, former NBA basketball player Wayman Tisdale, who is a renowned smooth jazz bass player, George's roots run deep. He was exposed to Gospel and R&B before he spoke his first word and was more than ready to create music of his own when, at the age of eight, he began to sing. His mother, recognizing his talent, encouraged his musical pursuits. Soon he was not only singing, but also playing drums and percussion everywhere he went, entertaining one and all and drawing inspiration from multitalented vocalist, musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer James Brown. George's ambition: to be equally successful at making people feel good and lifting their hearts and spirits.During his early years, George sang and directed the choir at his father's church. By the time he reached high school, he played the piano as well and soon gained the reputation of being a phenomenal percussionist as he expanded his musical knowledge and delved into the realm of jazz. After graduation, he joined the military. The Air Force enabled George to continue to grow as a singer and musician, performing throughout Europe and the United States. When his tour in the military ended, he moved on to North Carolina Central University, where he majored in Jazz Studies.George has performed with such artists as Branford Marsalis, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Joey Calderazzo, Eric Revis, Kevin Mahogany, Nnenna Freelon, Hubert Laws, Grady Tate, Lenora Helm, Kenny Garret, Terell Stafford and Ellis Marsalis. Because his debut album will be a mixture of early soul, funk, R&B, and jazz, it will appeal to music lovers of all ages.
