My name is Melissa Dawn Hafting. I was born in Vancouver, BC. I am 23 years old. I am half Norwegian and half Barbadian. My favourite singer is Frank Sinatra, he is my idol. Tony Bennett is also one of my favourite singers. I met him for the first time on June 22/06. He is a true living legend. A truly beautiful man. He signed my photo of him and talked to me.The second time I met him he sang a song to me after I gave him a rose. I will never forget his kindness and generosity ever. I also really love the vocal stylings of Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Doris Day. I really love John Pizzarelli's amazing guitar playing and his singing. He is a great entertainer. I met him on Oct 6/2006. He was such a laid back, easy going guy to talk to.I have been singing since I was 4 years old. My favourite type of music to sing is Standards and Jazz. I also enjoy performing in musicals. I find it much easier to act when I can sing along rather than straight acting. I played "Buttercup" in our highschool's performance of "HMS Pinafore". My friends still call me "Buttercup"!I have recorded 17 songs and placed 13 on my page. " Stormy Weather", " Bye, Bye Blackbird", "Thou Swell", "It's Delovely", "East Of The Sun", "If I Had You", "Three Coins In The Fountain", "My Buddy","Blue Velvet", "La Vie En Rose" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". "Non Dementicar" and "Young At Heart" both were recorded March 28, 2005 in my friend's house. This is why these two tracks have a lesser sound quality.I love animals and went to school to become a Registered Animal Health Technologist. I have a dog named "Sammy" and a cat named "Cookie". My dream is to become a singer of standard and jazz music. I love the classic songs they transcend time and are so immaculately beautiful. My friends are the most important thing to me. If you don't have friends where will you be? I have taken 8 years of dance including tap, jazz, celtic and ballet. In highschool I enjoyed singing in the choir. I speak French fluently and I love to travel. My favourite place to travel is Rome, Italy. It's just incredible there!I am a perfectionist with my songs I will record them over and over until I am satisfied. I starred in Miscellaneous Production's play called "E-Race". It ran at the Gateway theatre in the fall of 2005. We worked on the performance for a year and it did extremely well. I played "Monique" a character who had a passed drug addiction. My character sang the song "Deliverance" in the play. This song was not of my typical genre but more "pop". It still was fun to sing something new though.Right now I am trying to promote my demo and get my music out there to the public. I plan to audition for more musicals and do anything possible to advance my career. Music is my life. I sing because it makes me happy and that is the sole reason.
