The OctiMoron, better known as the DJ Prime8 out of Baltimore Maryland, for now anyway! A man of many names, 8 to be exact. The OctiMoron first found his true passion (Turntablism) in 1994 when he started to spin occassionally on decks that some friends of his would actually let him touch. From that point on, he just had to do everything he could to get his own set. In 1998, he bought his first set of Gemini Turntables and that was that. Being dubbed the DJ Prime8 by a childhood friend, spinning any beat that he could get his hands on. At the time, being a lover of all genre's and styles of music and hopping from show to show on a nightly basis to try and catch as many of his favorite performers whether it be, The Grateful Dead (Miss you Jerry), Victor Wooten, Roger Waters, to his favorite Dj's like Frankie Bones, Micro to locals Charles Feelgood, Scott Henry, Cleric, etc.. Damion S. is the one responsible for turning this then Dready Hippie/Raver Child and Hip-Hop enthusiast in to the absolute hardcore Junglist he is today. Drowning him in Drum & Bass mixtapes, getting him totally hooked on people like, Dara, Tech Itch, Trace, Karl K, Ed Rush & Optical, Stakka & Skynet, Kamal & Rob Data, Odi, Datcyde, 3D, DB, Capital J, Phantom 45, Delphonik, Danny The Wildchild, Teebee, and the list goes on... In 1999, he met Lou Brown aka Rev-E, tho coming from a totally different musical background, They quickly became friends. The Prime8 noticed from Rev-E a deep appreciation for the Drum & Bass sound along with the interest in spinning it wasn't long 'till they started tag-teaming at shows and recording various mixtapes. The Rev-E, who was already deep in to producing, wasted no time turning the Prime8 on to writing his own beats. Prime8 using advances in technology, away from his primitive form on the 1's and 2's, was thought of as an oxymoron, coupled with his obsession for the number 8, "The OctiMoron" was born. The colaborations between Rev-E and The OctiMoron, created a sound that the both of them thought could best be described as "Fluent" which became the name of their partnership. Thus, when they decided to venture off in to the Record Label business, "Fluent Records" was the name they naturally used. Get ready to feel a whole new vibe from the sounds of The OctiMoron. His fresh style of producing Drum & Bass is original and would be difficult to imitate. His progressively evolving sound includes complete customized editing of all drum breaks, to try and acheive their maximum potential along with the endless use of processing distortion effects. All the while maintaining an Old Skool Junglist vibe, which he remains true to. Everything he produces is a reflection of what he is feeling, which is the reason he tends to surpass the boundaries of conventional, or what can be called "Commercial Drum & Bass". Coupled with his background in the Jam Band scene, his compilations never fail to assume position as "One Tripped-Out Ride", where you never can tell what's going to happen next! "Eternal Search Of..." LP (Coming June 14th [his birthday]) is a direct example of The OctiMoron's ability to take you on an elaborate journey, for the entire mix was produced as one single composition from beginning, to end. A method rarely explored in the Drum & Bass scene. Along with the induction of several live vocalists, well, you'll just have to wait and see. Keep an eye out for tracks such as "Chill'nz'Vill'n", "Phat Throb" (March), "CV Extract" (Sept.) and many more, all of which are true showcases of his increasingly unique style, all wrapped up in to a few minutes time. So go on, get it twisted, spark it, hit it and pass it pon' tha' left.
