D. Rektâ„¢ aka The Nemesis

My name is D.Rekt and I am a Baltimore based Drum and Bass Dj/Producer. In 1995, at the age of 15, I finally discovered what I had been looking for in Drum and Bass. During that time I was learning many different musical instruments, from clarinet to trumpet, and everything in between. But it just took a friend playing some Photek tracks to completely hook me. After that I spent the next couple of years sneaking into any club or party I could just to hear a little taste of DnB. Then, at the age of 18, I finally had enough money for my first set of decks, and that was all she wrote. After about 2 years, I started playing out and quickly gained a good reputation and following. My style ranges from light and jazzy, to dark and heavy, basically whatever I'm feeling at the moment. Then in 2004, I decided to start dabbling in production work. Little did I know however, this was going to become a brand new obsession for me. Being a classically trained musician definently helped, but it was still a whole new ballgame. After 2 years, in 2006, I finally had some tunes I was comfortable playing out. Dropfunk (coming in March '07) was the first. A fresh take on a classic sample, was well received, and one of the first tunes picked up by Rev-e and Octi of Fluent. Focus (March '07) was an experiment with a piano riff, that became a solid tune and my second signing to Fluent. Look for much more to come though. With several remixes and a few collaborations coming, '07 and beyond should be pretty interesting.
