About Me
ONSITE CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT FOR MUSICIANS IN MONTREAL, QUEBEC
My goal is to bring Chiropractic into the Rock and music world. My name is Dr. Michael Wexel and I am a Chiropractor/Guitarist in Montreal, Quebec. I invite you to contact me directly at (514) 773-7246 to discuss the benefits obtainable by musicians. I would be pleased to provide you with more information regarding Chiropractic for musicians. The service that I am offering is one of convenience for local and visiting musicians in the Montreal region.
The 2 locations where I treat patients:
DOWNTOWN: 235 Rene Levesque E., Suite 100 (2 minutes from Steve's Music Store)
MONTREAL WEST: 31 Westminster N. (at west end of Sherbrooke near Condordia)
I am available to treat musicians in the studio, before the show at the venue or at the hotel. By coming to the musicians instead of them coming to me, I reduce the stress of their hectic schedules.
After having been trained and worked in New York for numerous years, I returned to Montreal in 2002 and have been in private practice where I have amassed a patient base of 1000+. Over the years, I have treated numerous numerous local/national and international musicians, actors/actresses, models, and radio/television personalities. Being a musician for many years, I am sensitive to musicians’ needs and understand common injuries associated with playing an instrument, especially guitars. I understand what muscles and joints need to be addressed, and the injuries associated with performing and playing an instrument. I am specialized in Repetitive Motion Injuries usually associated with musicians which generally affect the neck, back, shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand.
HOW CAN MUSICIANS BENEFIT FROM CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
The benefits of Chiropractic care for guitarists and musicians include: allows for peak performance without pain, increases player longevity, aids in conditioning of muscles and joints, improves recovery time, and reduces injuries in the future. Many top musicians seek Chiropractic care because it is natural, non-invasive, drug free, and assists the body’s natural healing process. Ultimately, the goal is for the musician to put on a great show. I understand the body and how to relax the muscles. In addition to treating injuries, my services are very useful at preparing the band for their gruelling/demanding performance.
Problems associated with being a musician include: neck/upper back problems; pain in the shoulders, forearms, and wrists; stiffness; Repetitive Motion Injuries; severe pain loss of strength in wrist and elbows. Guitarists and instrument musician are at special risk related to their playing. These injuries decrease performance and endurance while playing. Untreated injuries can even result in lack of control, cramping, numbness, or tingling. Since the majority of musicians’ injuries involve the entire musculoskeletal system, the importance of my level of awareness, with the details of the playing requirements for each instrument, is extremely valuable. My knowledge allows the musician to get the most effective care thereby resolving the injury more quickly and preventing any reoccurrence in the future.
Just as the sports community has a specialty devoted to sports medicine, musicians now have the opportunity to utilize a specialist for their health related problems. When seeking advice from a health professional, it is a good idea to look for someone who is sensitive to musicians’ needs, understands the unique problems that are associated with each instrument, knowledgeable in all treatment options, and treats the entire individual, not just the injured area.
How many concerts, shows or performances have been cancelled/postponed because a talented musician was unable to perform without pain? It is unacceptable to think that a performer must cease playing because of a physical problem. When your body is telling you that something is wrong, musicians don’t have the luxury of not playing their instrument. They must learn to work through their problems with guidance. Seek the help of a performance coach / teacher, or health specialist.
I am confident that the modern musician, when educated with the early warning signs and the knowledge of where to go for help, should never have to miss an opportunity to perform again. The body is an extension of the instrument. Treat it like you treat your guitar, bass, piano or drums; as a valuable piece of equipment, but one that cannot be replaced!
