Technicality tempered with a punk rock mentality. That is one sentence that describes Jeremy Colson's musical taste and ability to a tee. At the young age of 10 Jeremy picked up his first set of drumsticks and began a musical journey that would eventually take him around the world time and again. His intense passion for the instrument fully developed at age 15 when he first heard the progressive rock giant Rush. As he grew, so did his talent. By age 17 Jeremy was competing in national drum competitions and ultimately took 3rd place in the 1995 Guitar Center National Drum-Off.
At 19, he expanded his musical resume by joining the progressive rock band Dali's Dilemma and helped construct the album Manifesto for Futurism as well as working with Testament guitarist James Murphy.
Being a lover of all musical genres, as well as being heavily influenced by the sounds of punk rock and heavy metal, the diverse Colson joined Apartment 26 and rocked Ozzfest in 2001. Following his stint with Apartment 26, Colson joined the Michael Schenker Group where he toured and recorded the album Arachnophobiac. Around the same time, never one to rest, the tattooed genius began working with Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman recording the album Music For Speeding.
As his resume grew, so did the challenges. In late 2002, Jeremy came to the attention of Steve Vai through a recommendation from Shrapnel Record's mastermind Mike Varney. Colson was soon working with Vai in the studio, tracking an enormous amount of material some of which would take the shape of Real Illusions: Reflections. Described by Vai as "one of my favorite finds of my entire career," Jeremy continues to hold down the groove in "The Breed." All this and Colson is still in his twenties("actually I just turned 29 so I will have to change that soon"). Jeremy currently finished tracking drums for Marty Friedman's next solo album.
Jeremy is also giving drum lessons in the Bay Area. If you are interested please email jeremy at [email protected]Visit Jeremy's website at: jeremy-colson.com .
