SUNYATA is rooted in Xavier's first musical experiences in Ecuador. His first band, Noisy Matters , performed extensively and appeared on various radio and TV shows, as well as won a top-20’s best national bands’ contest (2002). In 2004 Xavier moves to Montreal, and continues his musical project by teaming up with new musicians, under the name of SUNYATA. His travels, university studies (Philosophy, Literature, etc) and explorations inspire him to write new songs. Weather in English, Spanish or French, the new compositions remain true to Xavier’s alternative style, with deep yet catchy lyrics (which he writes as well). The lyrics deal with energy, the illusory meaning of love, dreams, time, etc.
By the autumn of 2005 Phil Palanque, a French cinema and journalism student (at the same university where Xavier studied at) joins the project. His diversified musical interests in English and in French as well as his melodic creativity add new color to the sound of the band. At that time the project starts to solidify and SUNYATA keep jamming with a few other musicians.
By the last semester of 2006 Ben G., a solid drummer and guitarist, joins the band. With his punky style he redefines the rhythm of some melodies by adding up more dynamism and improving musical structures.
The ability of SUNYATA’s members to switch their roles on the instruments help them to perform in many venues in Montreal even in an unplugged configuration (concerts, jams, open-mics, 5@7’s).
SUNYATA start recording their first professional EP by the fall of 2006. The result, “Kosmic Mantraâ€, is released by Psychedelia Productions, in January 2007. The featured songs: I don’t know, Dirt, Antisocial (in Spanish) and When you’re gone got into the top 10 of Internet sites such as Soundclick, Underground Records and Songtiger. SUNYATA has had several radio interviews and spot light shows in Montreal radios (CINQ 102.3 FM, CHOQ FM, MIKE 105.1FM).
Presently, Xavier has moved to the west coast, and Vancouver's beauty will be the inspiration for his next project... PSYCHEDELIA!
