“Grab your fishing rod and light the hookah, this summer’s
soundtrack has officially arrived†-Altercation Magazine
“Ratboy have been presenting their twisted pop vision around the
valley for quite some time now, they serve up a scrappy, honest set
of tunes that mix the simplicity of Crazy Horse/Neil Young with the
irreverence of Crackerâ€-Roll Magazine
“The best bands somehow maintain an original voice while still
honoring their influences. One group of such messengers of song is
Ratboy. Their signature lyrical and harmonic twist-up shows such
influences as Beck and Lou Reedâ€-Chronogram Magazine
“I was listening to the Ratboy CD to find my favorite song and I
circled all of themâ€-Greg Gattine,WDST 100.1 FM Woodstock, NY
2008 is the Year of the Rat, and for New York-based buzz band RATBOY that truth could not be more self-evident. Kickstarting the year with an announcement tapping them to open MOUNTAIN JAM, the largest music festival in the New England area, RATBOY have hit the ground running. RATBOY’s musical nucleus has been in orbit for over a decade, comprised of core members TIM SUTTON (vocals / guitar) and MATT SENZATIMORE (percussion / backing vocals). Working both individually and collaboratively (Sutton has spent time performing solo across the globe, including performances alongside luminaries like THE RAMONES and PHISH, while Senzatimore was tapped to round out a critically-hailed FRANK ZAPPA Tribute), RATBOY truly came of age in 2007 with the release of their album Wading in the Balance.
Recorded at the legendary Utopia Studios in Woodstock, NY (home to such landmark pieces of musical history such as MEATLOAF’s Bat Out Of Hell), Wading... has delivered on RATBOY’s musical promise. Drawing comparisons to the likes of BECK, SOUL COUGHING, NEIL YOUNG and MODEST MOUSE, the band’s groove based rock foundation stands strong against a layering of surreal pop brilliance, societal folk angst and even unexpected moments of gripping rock fury. Wading...is a landmark, the type of album that a music fan knows in his or her bones will stand the test of time from their initial listen. National press raves from such long established media outlets as ROLL MAGAZINE, ALTERCATION MAGAZINE and beyond have done little to slow RATBOY’s momentum. Continuing to build upon their ever-increasing fanbase and rabid word-of-mouth, RATBOY intends to pursue an impressive level of touring and promotion throughout 2008. Whether it’s rocking the capacity-filled college town club or dominating the stage in front of 50,000+ festival goers, one thing is for certain these dedicated and talented musicians are determined to make 2008 the Year of the RATBOY.
