About Me

The first incarnation of SEIZE came about in 1995 when Sandrine Gouriou left London based group “The Picture Centre” to pursue her own musical path. The project, then named Carpe Diem, had various members come and go until Sandrine finally met Steven Young in 1997 and knew he was perfect for the project. The musical style of Carpe Diem had a more down-tempo/trip-hop/ethereal sound to that of recent day Seize. The first E.P. “Blades” was released in 1999, by which time the project name had been changed to “Seize The Day”.After a further name change, the first Seize gig took place in London in 2000 and was shortly followed by many successful performances all over the country, gaining the duo much critical acclaim.“Victim” was chosen as the second single to be released and it was decided that it should be a 12” white label, with a more club orientated remix of the track that would appeal to DJs. Many DJs welcomed the 12” including more than a few Ibiza residents.2001 saw the release of the debut album, “Lunacy” which received outstanding reviews from the media all over the world, being compared to the likes of Portishead and Massive Attack.Sandrine and Steven both felt that an extra member would benefit the live show, so Rosie Harris was recruited in the summer of 2002. The song writing was now starting to head towards a more breakbeat/trance direction and with the help of producer Mark O’Grady, the band decided to try their hand at remixing. It was In The Nursery’s “Caprice” that was to be Seize’s first remix experiment, an experiment that turned out extremely successfully and would help pave the way for Seize’s reputation as respected remixers. The following year, Seize spent their time playing shows all over the UK and Europe, generating more interest and promoting their new songs which would feature on their next album “The Other Side of Your Mind”. Amongst others, Radio One and Future Music picked up on the demos that were sent out and both made Seize a “featured artist”.The band were signed to Belgian label “Alfa Matrix” in 2003 and the second album was released in the November of the same year, reaching number 8 in the German Alternative Charts (DAC).After the album release, Seize enjoyed many successful shows, including playing to a 2000 strong crowd at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig. The band had been talking about getting a live drummer for quite some time and in late 2005 they met Sean Suleman, who had much live experience, touring America and playing in Drum n Bass bands - he was perfect for Seize and so became the fourth member of the Seize family.Sandrine, Steven and Rosie spent most of 2005 touring with Steve Strange as a backing band for Visage, along with Ross Tregenza of “Jetstream Lovers”. It was this experience that gave them the opportunity to remix the likes of Kelly Osbourne and play to crowds of 10,000 people. Unfortunately, this took the focus off Seize for the year, but they have since returned to the studio to concentrate on the third Seize album.2006 has seen Seize support Apoptygma Berzerk on their UK tour, play the Swedish Alternative Music Awards and being asked to support Front 242 at one of their two sell out 25th anniversary shows in Brussels. You can buy The Other Side of Your Mind (normal version and remixes) from iTunes: ..Square Matrix (also featuring Ayria, Glis and Dunkelwerk): ..And our latest song "Craving (Press the Mushroom Mix) which features on the "Re: Connected 2.0" compilation: ..
