A Greek designer, formerly based in London, Sophia specialises in unique, cutting-edge creations - for the woman who wants to establish her own look and more recently with a menswear collection that has already made a bold statement in the European market.Sophia Mattheaki designs are synonymous with unique, avant-garde fashion expressed in a variety of styles from breath-taking haute couture and alternative club fashion to contemporary corsetry and tailor-made bridalwear. Her penchant for working with unusual materials such as faux-fur, leather, hi-tech pvc, metallic boning, light reflective tape or Svarofski Crystals result in high quality, flattering designs that are truly individual.Sophia has an extensive knowledge of textiles and tailoring, due to her work with her family’s well-established ladies wear business in Greece. She has taken this foundation into Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion (both UK), which helped her transform her ideas into several ground-breaking collections of avant-garde designs that are contemporary, feminine and yet a pleasure to wear.Shortly after completing her studies she began presenting her unique collections at various prestigious events, including London Alternative Fashion Week (UK 2002-2004), 13th Fringe Festival (UK 2002) and Glam Rock – Breast Cancer Benefit (UK 2005). Her return to her hometown of Athens, Greece, was accompanied by a fashion show in conjunction with a concert by major alternative live act ‘Das Ich’ (Germany) in April 2005. It attracted much attention and was a great success as she was the first fashion designer who dared to show such a cutting edge collection in Greece.As Sophia’s designs are unusual and eye-catching she has became a favourite with bands, artists and models. She provided stage outfits for worldwide tours and concerts by bands such as Clan of Xymox , Soman and Seize , as well as working as costume designer on promo videos for Alec Empire and Inactive Messiah. She was also selected by ‘Europe Face 2005’ (Athens) and ‘Face of the year’ (Face magazine, London) beauty pageants to provide outfits for the contest participants.Apart from her fashion work, Sophia puts together the monthly editorial ‘The Metal Queen’ at Rock Hard Magazine (Greek Edition).
