You are invited to come join the world's longest celebration of Hip-Hop culture .
The 8th Annual Universal Hip-Hop Parade steps off in the historically Black neighbourhood of Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn on Saturday August 11th at 3:00 PM from the intersection of Marcus Garvey Boulevard & Myrtle Avenue and proceeds down Marcus Garvey Boulevard to Fulton Street and finishes up in the commercial heart of Bed-Stuy , Fulton Street, recently renamed Harriet Tubman Boulevard and Bedford Avenue.
At the endpoint participants are urged to network and to patronize our local community businesses especially the wide range of our fine local restaurants.
The parade, an annual PEACEFUL [Seven Years Incident Free and Going . . . ] family-friendly non-profit educational and cultural event is always held on the Saturday before the anniversary of Marcus Garvey's August 17th birthday to bring to mind that Marcus Garvey himself also used culture as a tool to empower people and encouraged the growth of Black institutions.
The parade is very easy for all New Yorkers and visitors to get to and from via Public Transportation . The nearest subways to the Start Point are the J train , the M train or the Z train to the Myrtle Avenue/Broadway stop or the J train to the Flushing Avenue/Broadway stop. The nearest subways to the End Point are the A train , the C train or the Franklin Avenue Shuttle from the Franklin Avenue/Fulton Street stop or the A train or the C train from the Nostrand Avenue/Fulton Street stop.
So please come on up to the historic Black neighborhood of Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on Saturday, August 11th 2007 and celebrate this legendary freedom fighter's birthday by participating in and watching the 8th Annual Universal Hip-Hop Parade.
