George Elliott was born and raised in Washington, Pennsylvania. He began playing the guitar at age 12, and bass shortly after. He studied guitar with Tony Janflone, Sr. By his senior year at Trinity Area High School, he was chosen for the bass position in the California University High School Jazz Experience, and received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. He was accepted to Duquesne University as a guitar major, studying with Joe Negri, William Purse, and Marty Ashby. In 1993, he left school to pursue a career as a full-time musician. In 1995, he became the bassist for Tony Janflone, Jr., performing an average of 200 shows a year, opening for artists Steely Dan and B.B. King, and appearing on the recordings Always: A Millennium Tribute to Bon Jovi, Live at the Blues Café, and In Time.
In 2003, George returned to Duquesne University as a bassist, and received his Bachelor of Music degree in Performance in 2004. While at Duquesne, he studied upright bass with Professor Jeffrey Mangone, and composition/arranging with Professor Michael Tomaro. He became an instructor at the Duquesne University Summer Guitar and Bass Workshop in 2004, and in the same year was also accepted into the graduate performance program at Duquesne. In 2005, George was awarded a graduate assistantship, working in the Guitar Department under the direction of Professor William Purse. In the same year, he was also awarded Honorary Mention in the Bass Extremes International Solo Bass Competition at Coastal Carolina University for his arrangement of "Michelle", by the Beatles.
George received his Master of Music degree in Performance from Duquesne University in May, 2006. Also this year, he performed at Lincoln Center, NYC, as well as opened for Smash Mouth and Collective Soul. He is currently the bassist with New Community Church (Wexford, PA), Bo Wagner's Let's Be Frank, Resonance Percussion, his own guitar/bass duo, and he performs regularly with the River City Brass Band.
