Grey Poupon is a Dijon mustard made by Kraft Foods. It is currently largest selling Dijon mustard being sold in the United States. It has particularly been made a cultural icon in the United States with its famous commercial, depicting a man in a limousine driving up to another man in a limo and asking him, "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" This commercial was satirized in the popular 1992 movie Wayne's World.Despite the current appearance of Grey Poupon as a Kraft product, the recipe (and brand-name) actually go back at least 200 years. Modern consumers tend to assume that the "Grey" in the name refers to the mustard's comparatively (in relation to typical "yellow mustard") light color. However, it actually refers to Mr. Grey, who acquired an existing mustard shop in Dijon during the early 19th century. Although the US version of Grey Poupon is indeed produced by Kraft Foods, the recipe is essentially unchanged from that of the era of Mr. Grey. (He was certainly not the originator of the recipe; its complete history is not clear. However, he did do much to market the product, and essentially assured its position as the world's premier Dijon mustard to this day.)Grey Poupon does, in fact, contain a small amount of white wine. The wine used in the American version is produced in Upstate New York, under the supervision of a rabbi; this is to ensure that the final product is able to retain its kashrut status
