About Me

I'm the famous yellow box for those who enjoy my price, ease, and versatility. While I've been around for over 100 years as a member of the O.B. Macaroni Company, I got my famous start by proudly serving the Hispanic community in the early 1940's. My new name was Q&Q Fideo. The Q&Q stood for Quality and Quantity. I quickly became a hit amongst the Hispanic migrant workers, as I was low in price and so easy to prepare in quantity, that I could be cooked right at the fields. Over the years, recipes have evolved to include soups, stews, and even macaroni.. err.. fideo and cheese. My most famous one though, is still the browned fideo soup with a tomato-based broth and cumin. I've traveled near and far, and am so glad that my influence has reached many of different cultures and tastes.
Some recipes from the yellow box itself!
FIDEO PRONTO
1 package Q&Q Fideo
1 16 oz can seasoned stewed tomatoes, chopped
1 tsp. sugar
3 tbs. cooking oil or bacon drippings
Heat oil or bacon drippings in heavy skillet. Add uncooked Fideo and saute over medium flame, stirring constantly, until golden brown. Add tomatoes and sugar, cover, and steam for about 8 minutes, or until Fideo is "bite" tender, but still slightly firm. Add salt and pepper to taste, and sprinkle with grated Parmesan if desired. Makes a delicious side dish for meats and fowl.
For spicy variety, add 1 medium onion and 1 small green bell pepper (chopped), saute with Fideo, and proceed as above. Either seasoned or plain tomatoes may be used.
SOPA DE FIDEO CON CALDO DE FRIJOLE
4 cups bean broth (water beans have been cooked in)
2 red tomatoes, chopped
1 small onion
vegetable oil
2 packages Q&Q Fideo
1 teaspoon dry chicken broth concentrate
Fry the chopped onion in vegetable oil. Fry fideo in a separate pan until golden. Remove the fideo and add the rest of the ingredients: chopped up tomatoes, salt, dry chicken broth concentrate, and bean broth. Add fideo just prior to serving and cook 5 minutes.
FIDEO DELICIOSO
1 pound ground beef or diced chicken or pork
1 box Q&Q Fideo
1 tablespoon oil or shortening
1 medium chopped onion
15-ounce can chicken broth
1/2 cup water
2 or 3 tablespoons chili powder
Salt or garlic salt and pepper, to taste
Saute selected meat until done and set aside. In the same pan, heat oil or shortening and lightly brown fideo, stirring constantly. Add chopped onion halfway through browning. Add chicken broth and water, and return meat to pan. Add chili powder, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 15 minutes. For extra zip, add sliced jalapenos or ground cayenne pepper.

My Interests

I enjoy sizzling in the intense heat, a cold shower quickly following, so I can simmer in comfort. My best friends, Cilantro and Garlic, and I also enjoy meeting new herbs and spices, as well as hanging out in the cupboards.

I'd like to meet:

Mmmmm... La Moderna... She's sooo sexy!

Music:

My landlord's stereo is always loud and rocking. I like almost all kinds of music, but I'm partial to rock and oldies (it's all I really hear).

Movies:

Oh, there are so many! A few of my favorites are "Like Water for Chocolate," "Fried Green Tomatoes," and "Soul Food."

Television:

I'm glued to the Food Network, although I absolutely love Grey's Anatomy. Sometimes I watch Telemundo, or I'll pull out my VHS of Cantinflas for a good laugh.

Books:

I love the "House on Mango Street" and "Woman Hollering Creek," by Sandra Cisneros.

Heroes:

Frying Pan, Swanson Chicken Broth, my best friend Cilantro for alway being there when I needed him, and of course, the O.B. Macaroni Company for allowing me to begin my wonderful adventure many years ago.
