About Me

About Alan
Some people seem to have it all figured out. Alan Bailey is not one of them, but he's working hard to fix that.
"I am reminded everyday that life is hard. If you don't see that, you're doing it wrong. But there's also beauty to be seen, and I'll gladly live through the hard times if I know there's something beautiful awaiting me."
Possibly the only rock musician with a graduate degree in computer science, Alan left the academic world and a government programming job to create music and share it with the world. Truly an insane endeavor. He spent a year in the Madison, WI music scene and a year in Europe before settling in Chicago, his hometown. Living here since 2006, he has grown a collection of about 50 of his own songs, and counting. Alan paid his piano rock dues by founding Bended & Folded: A Ben Folds Five Tribute Band, who have been playing around Chicago the last two years. Alan has performed on the stages at Schubas, Subterranean, Beat Kitchen, Abbey Pub, and Elbo Room, as well as local favorites like Quenchers, Tonic Room, and Red Line Tap.
On stage, the Alan-Bailey Continuum is the perfect vehicle for Alan's songs. Liz Ele packs a punch on the drumkit, but also knows when to lay back. Alan also brings a cello player into most gigs to add that lyrical touch to his songs. At each and every Continuum gig, Alan and the band perform a new cover song that they have never done before. As well as keeping the audience entertained and surprised, this is a way to stay fresh by learning new material.
Previous Covers:
Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Frankie Valli
The Power Of Love - Huey Lewis and the News
Your Song - Elton John
Island In The Sun - Weezer
Lithium - Nirvana
??? - ???
A show with the Continuum usually contains some surprises, such as raffles, guest musicians, bad jokes, or costumes. Be warned. Besides his original work, Alan is constantly busy with other projects and gigs. Right now, here are some of the projects with which Alan is working:
Alan is a musical director at Second City on one of their touring companies. This involves travel to other fine cities in this country playing music for the Second City brand of comedy.
Alan is a musical director at ComedySportz Chicago , which means he plays keyboards while comedians act out a scene or sing a song. Go to the website for more information and come out and see a show.
Alan teaches keyboards to budding children and adults at the Paul Green School of Rock Music . Go check out this real life School of Rock here in Chicago.
Alan has played in a cruise ship band with Norwegian Cruise Lines/Orient Cruise Lines for three months. A fantastic time was had and he will embark on another contract, when the time is right.
Alan leads a Ben Folds Five Tribute Band named Bended & Folded. Alan plays piano and sings (almost) like Ben Folds, while Mike Slater plays the part of Robert Sledge on bass and Liz Ele plays the tasty tasty drum work of Darren Jessee. This band usually gigs on the whim of whenever Alan wants to play or when a good gig slot is offered to them. Their website is located at http://www.bendedandfolded.com . Go there for more information on that band!
