Andrea Amos started performing before the age of 5 for family and friends. Always full of energy and eager to bring excitement to her audiences, she was never shy about “tossing a hat in" to earn some extra change. This habit followed through her teen years where she traveled up the west coast of Canada, performing for people on the streets. Success in music began at a young age: she played second chair of the first violin section for the award winning South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra; she led, sang and played drums in her own punk band during high school; and she managed her own professional jazz combo where she sang and played drums. Indeed, much of her high school and college years saw her performing for audiences across Canada and the Midwest . Since moving to Chicago in 2000, Andrea has performed at popular venues including the Hot House, Fitzgerald’s, The Jazz Showcase, The Elbo Room, Wise Fools Pub, Redman's, The Note, Cosmic Cafe, The Hotel Orrington, The Spot, The Hilton, The Landmark, Spot 6, Morseland, Phyllis's Musical Inn and Joe Baileys.
Now in her mid twenties, she has learned to combine her raw and vibrant talent with exceptional collegiate training to bring a new level of sophistication and professionalism to her sound, both in her original tunes and her distinctive arrangement of old standards. She is, in her words, “an instrumentalist that loves to sing." To that end, she commands a level of respect from the musicians who play with her that is unparalled by many singers. Her uncanny ability to improvise, her unique style and ease of execution, and her pure love of music, allow her to engage and captivate any crowd.
While Andrea’s educational background is primarily as a jazz player, she has recently discovered her own sound and is eager to take the music world by storm with her original, more commericial, music.
Andrea currently teaches voice, piano and violin around the Chicagoland area.
