About Me

Michelle Morales is quickly being recognized as the "go to" cellist in the Chicago music scene for live performance, collaboration, and studio recording. Born and raised in Arizona, she began cello at eight years old. Her Father's record collection set the tone for her passion of rock and experimental music. Realizing that music was her calling, she majored in Cello Performance at Arizona State University. Balancing the study of classical music and rock, Michelle blended the love of the genres. She began collaborating with musicians from the Arizona music scene which gave her inspiration to perform the cello in alternative settings other than the classical stage. Presently, her days are spent in Chicago after just completing a Masters Degree in Cello Performance at DePaul University. Her teachers have included members of the Chicago, Arizona, and National Symphony Orchestras. Her recent journey took place in Los Angeles performing with The Foo Fighters at the 50th Grammys and was led by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin conducting. Michelle teaches at The Peoples Music School, which is the only tuition-free community music school in the United States. When she is not performing, she is active in helping establish Chicago indie label, Kilo Records. Michelle performs on an East German cello circa 1900 and a Zeta Archive Strados Educator electric cello.
