About Me

KAYCE is a singer, songwriter, musician and producer who grew up in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. She began pursuing a career in music as early as her high school years, when she commenced studying piano at Immaculate Conception High School, located in Constant Spring Jamaica. She did very well as is noted by her yearly distinctions received from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM). Consequently following graduation she continued her music performance studies at Wittenberg University located in Springfield, Ohio. Having completed her education she began to build her career as a lovers rock reggae singer, starting with a primer performance at the Ocean Bay Night Club in Toronto Canada alongside artists such as Nadine Sutherland and Belinda Brady. In the following months she attempted to work along with known producers throughout Jamaica. Unfortunately this proved to be a somewhat futile task, because most were not able to take on a new artist. Thus she began working on producing tracks for herself. During this time she had her work critiqued by Sly Dunbar of taxi records. He helped her understand how to make a good solid rhythm track or beat. Her most notable tracks which she has received considerable acknowledgement for are Tell Me and Let Me Show You. Kayce has been interviewed on Smile Jamaica the morning talk show for Television Jamaica (TVJ) and Zip Fm. Artists including the likes of Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Alton Ellis and Sade are amongst those whom she admires. Kayce has a smooth modern contemporary style of singing, mixing rhythm and blues, with the cultural roots of reggae, and will continue to evolve as time goes by.

Influences: Many things and people have influenced me. When I compose music I simply rely on what sounds good. So I guess the question how do I know what sounds good and that I think stems from my musical training as a pianist. When you play classical music or listen to it, each instrument has a line that somehow manages to create synergy with the other lines. Ofcourse there is a theme and that is heard over and over throughout the piece. It is the same with pop music. The theme is the chorus, and the verses and bridge are the other lines that inevitably support the chorus. My style of singing is my own, depending on what emotions the music stirs up in me, I may sound different on each record but then who doesn't.
Sounds Like: I love a variety of sounds from the smooth moves of a Jazz player to the hard core styles of the dancehall beat. I like rhythm and blues because it really allows the singer the freedom to to use up their vocal range. I love Jazz because of the ability for one to be unpredicatable in their melody lines differently from pop in which the tune is fairly straight forward with some allowance for change. I am a pianist so I must admitt that I do love classical music and I spent most of myyears listening to just that.
