About Me
***PRESS RELEASE*** Peter Daley is an exceptional composer/pianist and maestro in demand known for his versatility, command and performance on the keyboard. Now, for the first time, this mastery is brought together in a mix of tracks on his debut album. The album is diverse in its content, ranging from straight head jazz to urban contemporary, with most of the album graced with live instrumentalists. Peter also uses programmed beats, making the album eclectic in its style. This work is one of a kind because all the material is composed, arranged and produced by Peter. This album is a must have for your collection.Peter’s recent commission was from Black Voices and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) where he composed a piece for SATB voices, a four piece band and full orchestra, which was performed at Symphony Hall. ‘Apart from Life’ features Peter the composer as he scores and conducts string arrangements on ‘Sunrise’ - track 1 -, a contemporary jazz rock type composition with a rich echoing melody and ‘Ensonek’ - track 4 -, a laid back groove that will put your mind on a sunny beach in paradise. A track to listen out for is ‘Blessings’ - track 8 - that has an urban beat with rich textured harmony, coated with gospel R&B piano. Two straight head jazz tracks on the album include ‘Movin’ - track 6 - featuring Ed Johnston on sax and ‘Blueson’ - track 10 - a swing/Afro-Cuban composition that is full of energy. It has the affluent and funky Femi Temowo on guitar, Mike ‘swinging’ Fletcher on alto sax, the great Miles Levin on drums on both tracks, and Pete Daley on piano.Vocal tracks; ‘Together’ - track 7 - has an urban groove featuring Genevieve Sylva (Peter’s sister), singing the silky smooth lead and background vocals and ‘Hold your head up’ - track 3 - a neo-soul song featuring Dave Copeland who sings with great intensity and soul. His vocal arrangements are second to none, along with his vocal range and unique tone. ‘Go Go’ - track 2 - features The Witness. This composition begins with a jazz funk vibe moving through various grooves, reaching the final section where the band ends with a reggae roots vibe, with a piano solo, and the gospel dancehall orator Witness, dropping his hard positive lyrics.‘B-Free’ - track 12 - is a hymnal type prelude in three movements showing Peter’s virtuosity as a Hammond organ player. The composition develops with the intensity as Peter uses the tremolo and choral switch, and a variety of spread chords and dashing melodies, with elaborate chordal harmony. He weaves through keys, modulating, whilst keeping the movements connected. The nature of this composition is reminiscent of emotional and expressive playing in a Pentecostal church service.Peter, who was nominated as Musician of the Year 2006 at the Oasis Awards, is no stranger to the limelight and has worked with the likes of jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan, Andy Hamilton, Konig, the Birmingham Conservatoire big-Band and the Jazz Warriors to name a few.“To my knowledge and experience Peter is one of the most gifted musicians and original composers of his generation. I have high hopes for him.†Prof. Andrew Downes“A dozen years of international musical experience under his belt.†The Voice newspaper“This album is a voice and representation of many musical cultures in the community. I am a product of my environment, which extends internationally. Music communicates in many ways, I hope this album speaks to you.†Peter Daley MA BMus Composer, Arranger, Producer, Pianist and Conductor.
