About Me
WHY DO THEY CALL ME BABYBROOKS… I’ve been a creative since as long as I can remember. At age 20 I bought a 12-track machine and did a few home demos. (Boy, I made that thing work!!!) I put myself out there and ended up doing a few home-based productions for people – (If you’re reading this “God is not mocked - Pay up!!!â€) Raised the dough to buy MPC and 02R desk, and by the summer I had landed a few credible remixes. I worked for a production Company called Opaz for a good minute, where I learnt more about the business side of things and met some cool catz, inc Ronny Jordan, Mica Paris, Louise, Joel Campbell, Marc Lewis, Ray Hayden & whole host of US catz. I went on to do remix work for artists such as Prophet Jones, Mary J Blige, Blacksmith, Jamelia and other UK acts. I didn’t want to be labelled as a “remixer†cause I knew I was a creative not a decorator (subtle analogy!!!) I had the pleasure of writing with some new acts signed and unsigned, and in 2004 cut my first album entitled “The Lost Code†with Herb “the G†Powers Jnr at the Hit Factory NYC. The Project is an Inspirational outfit with a band called “The Companyâ€. They are absolute ‘Terrorists’ who are getting love on the streets and just need the right exposure. In 2004/2005 I began to work within the Live Arena programming for major UK pop acts including Natasha Beddingfield, Blue, Misteeq, Lee Ryan. I show Much Love to those ahead of me in the game – “thanks for opening doorsâ€, and there are a whole host of ‘Disgustingly’ talented people beside & behind me -Show Character, keep your head up, and break the mould. My quest in Music has cost me a lot, given me much more and taught me a great deal. “THERE’S A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BEATMAKER AND A PRODUCER, A LYRICIST AND A SONGWRITER. I’VE GOT A LOT TO LEARN I’M STILL A BABYâ€~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BABY - At the age of eight I put together a singing group consisting of some of the ‘heavyweight’ singers in Birmingham UK, (Where I grew up) all of which were at least almost double my age. As the ‘Baby’ of the gang I’m sure they somewhat entertained me as I wrote, put together and gave out arrangements................ BROOKS - (my surname) from my mum’s side as my Dad wasn’t around (come on men, get it together!) and she is who infused me with musical creativity. With a scribbled on notepad, a pen and her guitar, she got many a church service ‘rockin’, (Love you Ma.)
