The Slickee Boys

just a tribute to a great band ...

About Me

The Slickee Boys released its first EP, "Hot and Cool," in mid-1976 - an event documented by members of the new wave community as the third DIY new wave record ever recorded. The band was founded by guitarists Marshall Keith and Kim Kane (with Kane as the principal songwriter) and featured Martha Hull on vocals. By 1978, Mark Noone was singing lead and the lineup as seen in this 1981 9:30 club gig included (L-R) Emory Olexa on bass, Kane, Dan Palenski on drums and Keith in the fluorescent pink sports coat. The Slickee Boys benefited from Noone's showmanship as well as his songwriting. In 1983, a music video of Noone's "When I Go to the Beach" got second honors in MTV's Basement Tapes competition giving the Slickee Boys heavy rotation and the distinction of being the first band from the area to be played on the then new video channel.Other members of the Slickee Boys came and went - Kim Kane left in 1988 - but Noone and Keith remained constants from 1978 until the band disbanded in 1991. Still, New Year's Eve reunion shows happen like clockwork, and a best-of CD titled "The Slickee Boys: Somewhat of an Anthology" was released in 2002.
