ThePriscillas’ sound is timeless yet effortlessly of its time. Ambitious yet instantly catchy. Fun yet deeply affecting. Already slated to be future cult heroines, their truetime is now.
You’ve always known that the all-girl, London-based foursome have their punk side. But as upcoming album Holloway Or Bust!? proves, there’s much, much more tothem. It’s a glittering, Technicolor jukebox where every song is a number one in heaven.
Everything you want and need from a great album is here in gigantic, heapedshovelfuls - climactic rock, sassy roll, bubblegum pop, heartbreaking showstoppers, brain-melting mariachi, and glam rock stomp. Hugely ambitious, the album has already beencompared to Blondie, The Flaming Lips, The Damned, The Who, Queen, The Go-Gos, The White Stripes, Abba, Donna Summer, Sonic Youth, The Glitter Band and Buzzcocks. It wasproduced by Marc Waterman (Elastica, Ash, Ride) and Andy Chatterley (Kylie, The Kills)
Perhaps the diversity of the album is down to the girls who make up the band. JennyDrag, the New Jersey frontwoman is legendary for her prowling stage presence and achingly fine singing voice as much as her catsuits. Norwegian Guitar diva Guri Go-Go wieldsan axe that can flip from Viking to chainsaw in a nanosecond, and all with a cheeky pin-up wink. Sole native Brit, Kate Kannibal’s twist on melodic basslines kick as hard asher legs do on stage, and Hege Hotpants’ outfits are as tight and shiny as her drum rolls.
The band’s live performances are legendary. The girls have a tight, dramatic, and gleefully, heart-soaringly good show. Their performance has been honed supporting legendary bands including The Cramps, The Damned, The 5.6.7.8s, The Glitter Band, TheSeeds and The Monks, as well as whippersnappers including Art Brut and The Pipettes. They’ve charmed festival audiences from The Big Chill to Glastonbury, Leeds Carling, PortEliot Literary festival, and Bestival, and played radio sessions including several appearance’s on Phill Jupitus’ 6Music breakfast show, Marc Riley’s programme, and won theLondon song competition on Alex Zane’s Xfm breakfast bonanza. The girls have toured Europe extensively, and completed a tour of the USA.
Their second single, All MyFriends Are Zombies was used on a trailer for CBBC that was aired on primetime BBC1. Their legendarily audacious videos have been on heavy rotation in Topshops across Europe .
The band have had acres of great press, from Kerrang! to Vogue, NME to Elle, Bust to iD and The Word to The Independent. The planet is now ready. Lay back, world, and letThe Priscillas into your heart.
