The Unadventures of SnareDevil & the QFO

Part 01: The rising of the SnareDevil

- About SnareDevil -

SnareDevil is a man of Passion & Innovation, a Grade-A Student of Life, this is his story: SnareDevil was born in Capetown in South Africa, on the 16th of October in the fine year of the monkey, 1980. He was given the name of Dominic Michael Douglas Jackson and brought up in and around the streets of Johannesburg: the highest crime rated city in the world. Nothing to be proud of he claims, but it does explain his deep, wicked, and sometimes sadistic but forgiving sense of humour!

At the age of 15 he was taken to his 1st Rave featuring Josh Wink with 28 thousand ravers and lots of House Music and the occasional tent or chill out room involving some sort of scorching Techno or extremely early ambient Jungle. For the next two and a half years he explored over 40 different Raves just like this one, during which he decided that music was why God had put him on this planet. House and Techno were the most important thing to SnareDevil at this point and all he could think about. DJing skills were flowing, popularity was rapidly growing, and things were looking sweet. But suddenly... the tables turned, SnareDevil had to move to England with his parents.
He was still in school and unable to afford to stay on his own, and unable to do anything about it ("Pack Your Bags son" said his Parents, "We're Leaving!"). So as the story goes, he landed on English soil on the fine rainy morning of Friday 1st May 1998, where he spent the next 4 months waiting to start a college course and get into the local social scene. This was the turning point for SnareDevil's music career, although experts say "The Starting Point". See, he was shortly introduced to Drum n Bass which swiftly made him forget about the House and Techno that had driven his soul for the last 3 years of his life. This happened because for the next year he went purely to local Drum n Bass clubs and became so infatuated with it, that he decided to do nothing but concentrate solely on it, forgetting "everything" else.
His new dream and goal was to become a, not so much famous, but more a well respected Drum n Bass Producer and DJ, even it was just locally. True as Bob, the next 3 years were fantastic and he started mixing at a local bar on the weekends and on Wednesday nights. Alas though, after the Drum n Bass scene started dying down in the local area he decided to put a hold on the DJing, after all, he had mastered this well enough to impress more than just a few, and concentrated solely on the production of Drum n Bass and perfecting his scratching.

In June 2005 though, he started working on projects alongside a Breakbeat producer called Mendoza, and put out 2 EP's to the local area combining Drum n Bass and Breakbeat. At the same time SnareDevil and Mendoza became the producers of a local up and coming Hip Hop group called "A Shade of Gray", who are group of local MCs and Singers in the Gosport and Portsmouth areas.

SnareDevil has always a been a fan of scratching and has always scratched in his Drum n Bass sets. But since producing Hip Hop he's worked extremely hard and become quite outstanding at the artform and has even learned to read and write 'Turntablist Transcription Methodology'. TTM is the newly discovered written form of Turntablism, much like how people would read music from a score. So during the last couple of years whilst working on projects with "A Shade of Gray", he's also been working on his own technique at scratching and has created his own personal favourate project the "Scratch Test Dummy Breaks". Volume 2 is in the making and Volume 1 can be seen and heard by visiting "http://www.myspace.com/scratchtestdummybreaks".

At the present time SnareDevil is also working on "Project 140178.15" and formed "Zero Defecit" with Mc Freestyle - more on that to come.

A lot of my DNB production is heavily influenced by my early raving years in the techno and tech-house scene, like way back in 95 and 96 when everything was dark and sadistic. Currently really into TeeBee, Calyx, Sabre, Breaks, TK, Megadrummer and many more... also Mc Freestyle (Zero Defecit)

I'm also into Turntablism and Hip Hop and I'm heavily influenced by the hard work and dedication to the Scratch World by DJ Qbert, Flare, Lonely and QFO Zinc etc
