PROJECT StepUP!

"SUPPORT FOR AFRICA'S CHILDREN"

About Me

PROJECT StepUP! is an effort to raise awareness about the impact of AIDS on children in sub-Saharan Africa and the growing number of orphans throughout the region. We will post links to related sites and charitable organizations, provide forums for discussion and feedback and from time to time post original music that you can download for free.
PROJECT StepUP! does not accept donations. We are not a corporation or a non-profit. We are simply individuals who feel passionately about this cause and hope to draw people's attention to the facts surrounding the millions of children sufferering needlessly in this part of the world.
INFO: In South Africa by 2010 around 10% of the population will be orphans. By 2003 15 million children under 18 had been orphaned by HIV/AIDS worldwide. About 12 million of these live in sub-Saharan Africa, and it is expected that this number will have risen to more than 18 million by 2010.
The economic impact of HIV/AIDS illness and death has serious consequences for an orphan's access to basic necessities such as shelter, food, clothing, health and education. Orphans run greater risks of being malnourished than children who have parents to look after them.
(The information on this page was taken from the website: www.avert.org and statistics were taken from the UNAIDS/WHO 2004 Report on the global AIDS epidemic)
