I have come to save music!

About Me

Hello everyone! Thanks a lot for visiting my page. I've moved down to London! It's misery! Still haven't seen one smile on the tube!
I was initially on here looking for a record deal like any other young kid with a dream, but i've now decided i'm going to go it alone. I've been hearing some horror stories about these major labels, that they're profits are getting so low that they now demand half your gig money and if you don't become a million seller with your first record, they'll drop you. If you do, but your second LP doesn't do quite as well, they'll still throw you away as if you're a ten a penny Pop Idol contestant.
Most of the A&R men i've met have been cocks who know fuck all about good music and just look for copycats to pick up the leftovers of the current big thing (notice the amount of "singer songwriters" that sprung up since James Blunt had a hit? Notice how many Arctic Monkeys copycats there are now? Lily Allen = Kate Nash?). And every fucking band they sign has to have a gimmick to mask the shite music : The Gossip - fat chick, Keane - no guitarist, The Zutons - foxy female sax player, The Kooks - stupid straw hats, Franz Ferdinand - shite "angular" art dance moves, The Klaxons - screeching keyboard covering everything, Kaiser Chiefs - Shit loads of "Woa"s because they've got nothing to say e.t.c. Next time you see a band on TV, try and spot the gimmick. There's almost always one.
Rant over. I'm currently on a mission to start a record label dedicated to good music only, initially to release my own tunes, but eventually when writers' block kicks in, i'm gonna turn it into a powerhouse! The new Motown!! I'm sure Cowell's terrified. ; )
I'm not the first person to see or do this. Alan McGee has recently talked about how the major labels are dying out and more and more bands are doing it on their own. Even though he's done nothing since Oasis, you can't deny that his words hold some truth. And there's The Sessions, that band which have self-financed their single, recorded a video for it, and released it on their own label. Even though the song isn't great, you can't deny that they deserve respect for putting their balls on the line like that.
I've got some massive tunes on the way, and I believe i've written a debut LP of Asda counter sized proportions! Even though i'm only 24, they're fairly old tunes now (don't get me wrong, I love these songs dearly and they mean the world to me), but I know they're quality and more importantly, catchy songs with mass-market appeal, and I need to persue them to try and earn enough money to eventually get an orchestra in to record my masterpiece (the 3rd LP) which is my Pet Sounds. My Forever Changes.
At the moment, i'm currently saving and trying to get together about 10 grand to record the first single and it's B-sides, get a good video done for it, and press plenty enough copies to give it the chance of doing well. In the meanwhile, i'm also gonna try and get 10 / 20 thousand+ of you myspacers to join my page and hopefully try to create momentum with a good following.
I've started to stick some rough demos of my first LP up. I'll try and keep adding tunes regularly, but it's hard work juggling it with paying the bills. Eventually, i'm looking to abandon recording demos altogether and just record the finished article instead with whatever good musicians I can put together at short notice. Get it perfect, no rough edges. (I was initially going to put a band together, but i've realized that most bands called "The" whatever are just another marketing tool used to package and sell the music usually written by one bloke. I mean, are Coldplay anything more than Chris Martin and a couple of his mates?) But for now, here are some old demos to give a vague idea of the 1st Album. 2007 is a building year to put together my masterplan. In January 2008, it's all gonna kick off!
If you've read this far, thanks a lot for your time, it's truly much appreciated. I hope you'll hop on board and add me to your friends, if only to see how this ambitious idiot gets on!
Anyway.........Another Day........This was one of the very first songs I ever wrote, and I doubt i'll ever write one much better due to it's sheer simplicity. It'll be the last song on the album, but it's the first you should hear. I suppose it's a song about magic. This is only a rough take - I plan to have another stab at the vocal at some point, but at the time of writing i've currently got the flu so I guess this'll have to do for now!........Talk Of The Weather..........This is a complex rant against society set to a catchy tune, which i'll elaborate more on another time. For now, this is just a song about the weather ; ).........Talk Of Love.........Sorry for the rough edge to this, it's literally a one take demo with a couple of overdubs. Got to polish it up and record bass and drums e.t.c for it at some point, but it will do as an acoustic demo for now.........The Sound Of Music........Ok. I know that this is really rough, even rougher than the others, but I thought i'd stick it up anyway. It's a balls out rocker with a mean riff which will probably end up being the first single off the record..........Move With The Times.........This is a very old demo from 2002. Apologies for the dodgy vocal and general scrappiness, I was just learning how to sing in tune back then and I didn't have a drum kit either, but I thought i'd stick it up as a stop gap (if only for the psychedelic solo!) to stave off the famine of any of my followers whilst I record the album.........More tunes coming soon! Cheers for taking the time to listen
