still from : THE KEY TO LIFE, director Garnet CabmpellJenifer Mallett was born in Elliot Lake, Ontario, just a few miles north of Toronto. When she was 5 she began her career in the performing arts with both acting and singing. She competed in choir and solo performances all throughout elementary and high school. As she obtained lead roles in most school productions, and received praises of both students and teachers, she knew that she was destined to be an actress.As there were very few avenues for acting in the small town where she grew up, she decided to enter and compete in pageants. In 1996 she won the title of Miss Congeniality in the Miss Northern Ontario Pageant, and went on to compete in the Miss Ontario Pageant. Once again she won the title of Miss Congeniality, which opened the doors for modelling opportunities including the Toronto Sun’s Sunshine Girl, December 17th, 1997. Jenifer Mallett began to study theatre on her own, and in 1997 travelled across Canada doing anti-drug and alcohol programs for Native children, where she taught drama and theatre. After doing that for several years she moved to the west coast and proceeded to teach performing arts privately as well as continuing her own acting in local productions.Now residing in Vancouver, British Columbia with her husband and two children, Jenifer has worked for a full year at the Storyeum (A live historical production) in Vancouver, and was part of the extensive promotional campaign, including billboards and television advertisements. This has allowed her to work fulltime on her onscreen acting career in film and television.Her first onscreen role was for a student film called Mosquitos, playing the character of Mel. The film is a contemporary version of an old native legend, and Mel was a main supporting role. Jenifer Mallett has since worked on a few other independents, Heaven is a Colorful Place and Reel Crime (principal role) aswell as performing musically with M’girl on a video series, and at the Vogue Theatre in downtown Vancouver. A recent addition to her onscreen roles is a lead in a short film called The Key to Life, produced for the On The Lot reality show with Steven Spielberg. She plays the lead female Sid, who has gotten herself into a life and death situation in which she must find her way out of.
