HOT ROD

Profile: Hot Rod is the all-American boy Autobot.
Not too sweet, not too sharp, not too snotty... not a goodie-goodie, but basically a typical adolescent who has dreams of doing great stuff and being as heroic and important as Optimus Prime and other famous and revered top Autobots.
He tends to follow rules until they bug him and he sometime learns, to his regret, that disobeying wasn't exactly smart. And he often acts without thinking in an effort to do the right thing and this gets him and sometimes his friends in trouble. But he's not afraid when trouble does arrive and is a brave an honorable fighter and friend. He is especially close to Kup, the grizzled ole mentor of an Autobot, although he sometimes resents hearing his 'wise-ole' advise.
He also likes Spike's son Daniel a lot. In a way, Hot Rod is big brother to Daniel -a role model and Hot Rod knows it and takes the responsibility seriously. In robot or automotive mode, Hot Rod is sometimes hot-headed, but always a well meaning, admirable 'lad' and popular with all who know him.
Abilities: He carries two photon lasers that temoorarily electromagnetize an enemy robot's microcircuits. In Auto mode he is capable of reaching in excess of 135 mile per hour.
Weaknesses: Hot Rod is brash and impulsive and his actions often get him into trouble.
Story: At the beginning of the movie, he is stationed at Autobot City on Earth. Along with Daniel Witwicky, the son of Spike, he discovers the Decepticon's secret attack on the city. Just before the Decepticons are driven off, he gets in the way of a battle to the death between Optimus Prime and Megatron. He eagerly attempts to protect Optimus Prime from Megatron's deception after realizing the Decepticon leader's 'pleas' for mercy from his hated enemy near the end of the fight were a ruse to buy enough time to grab a discarded energy pistol and turn the tables. Hot Rod jumped on Megatron's back, however this only allowed Megatron to use him as a shield, blocking Optimus's line of fire, allowing Megatron to deliver the fatal shots to Optimus Prime. He threw Hot Rod to the side and aimed the gun at Prime's head. Prime, with his last ounce of strength, punched Megatron off the side of the complex and Megatron fell two stories to the ground beneath.Starscream ordered a Decepticon retreat, kicking Megatron with the intentions of leaving him at Autobot City. Soundwave, Megatron's most loyal soldier, helped Megatron to Astrotrain, which was the ship the Decepticons were using to escape. On the ship Astrotrain said that he was carrying too much weight. Bonecrusher suggested that they throw the injured Decepticons into space and Starscream was more than happy to oblige. Starscream lifted Megatron to the door and threw him out into the abyss of outer space.Megatron floated in space, near death, with Thundercracker, Skywarp and some Insecticon clones. In space he met up with Unicron, the planet eating monster. Megatron reluctantly made a deal with him that said he would destroy the Autobot Matrix of Leadership if Unicron gave him a new body. Not only did Unicron change Megatron's body, he changed his personality too. Megatron was now known as Galvatron. Thus, Megatron became Galvatron, and began to carry out his assigned task, although he was loath to do so; when Galvatron showed any signs of opposition to Unicron's will, Unicron inflicted agonising mental torture on his servant to bring him back into line.Shortly after the battle, Megatron, in his new form of Galvatron, attacks Autobot City again. The Autobots are split into two groups, and Hot Rod and Kup go aboard a shuttle with the Dinobots. During their journey to Cybertron, they are attacked by Galvatron's underling, Cyclonus. Their ship is critically damaged, and they crash on the planet Quintessa, where they are captured by the Quintessons and are sentenced to death by being torn apart by Sharkticons. Hot Rod and Kup manage to hold their own, and with the arrival of the Dinobots and a new Autobot, Wheelie, they turn the Sharkticons against their masters, and depart the planet to reunite with the other Autobots on Junkion.Following Unicron's consumption of Cybertron's two moons, Galvatron successfully accomplished his mission, but with the Matrix in his hands, foolishly believed he could use it to bring Unicron under his control. Attempting to open the Matrix to intimidate Unicron, Galvatron only prompted his transformation into robot mode, and was swallowed by the planet-eater. Unicron proceeded to lay waste to Cybertron, briefly halted when the young Autobot, Hot Rod crashed a Quintesson spacecraft through his eye.From Junkion, the Autobots attacked Unicron. Hot Rod pilots the Quintesson's ship into Unicron's right eye, but in the ensuing crash, he is separated from the other Autobots, and encounters Galvatron alone. Galvatron, who never intended to give Unicron the Matrix, preferring instead to enslave him with it, offered to make an alliance with Hot Rod to defeat Unicron. Unicron, however, sensing the danger Hot Rod posed, ordered Galvatron to kill him immediately. During the battle, Hot Rod took the Matrix from Galvatron and began transformation into the Autobots' new leader, Rodimus Prime. He threw Galvatron out of Unicron's body and deep into space and opened the Matrix, which started a chain reaction that destroyed Unicron, leaving only his head drifting in space. After escaping Unicron, he took command of the Autobots in his new form, Rodimus Prime, and led them back to Cybertron. Despite this sucess, his relative inexperience, self-conciousness, and self-doubt caused him to question many times over whether or not he was a good leader.Later, when Optimus Prime is revived, Rodimus Prime returns the Matrix of Leadership (and the Prime title) to him, reverting to his former identity of Hot Rod.
