WHO WE ARE
Guardian Angel Animal Rescue is a registered Michigan 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill rescue group dedicated to saving, sheltering and protecting animals in need. We rescue animals from the streets, shelters & bad situations. Veterinarians and pet stores also call us to take abandoned and abused animals.
We do not own a formal shelter. The dogs and cats we find homes for are kept in a kennel (which we must pay for) until a foster home can be found for them. Needless to say, we are ALWAYS on the lookout for more fosters so we would never have to utilize a kennel (please see how you could become a foster below).
Please be kind to our volunteers. Our volunteers are unpaid and all but a few work full time jobs and do their rescue work in their spare time (weeknights, weekends). This means we cannot always respond to adoption requests or requests for assistance immediately. We do have a voicemail system that is monitored several times a day. The best way to reach a volunteer is by email.
WHERE CAN YOU MEET OUR ANIMALS?
GAAR shows its available dogs at weekend adoption events (see Upcoming Adoption Events above). We normally show every Saturday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Canton Petsmart located on Ford Road just west of Haggerty (next to IKEA). If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please email to make sure the dog you wish to meet with be at that week's adoption event.
Many of our available cats can be seen EVERY DAY (Monday - Sunday) at the Canton Petsmart's Luv-A-Pet Adoption Center, during their normal business hours.
GAAR also attends special adoption events during the course of the year, so always check this site for updated Adoption Event information.
HOW OUR ADOPTIONS WORK
We do NOT do on-site adoptions at our adoption events. Guardian Angel Animal Rescue (GAAR) utilizes an application process. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat, you must first fill out an application. Applications can be emailed and/or faxed to you at any time.
We utilize an application process because we have worked hard at nurturing and working with the animals in our care. In order to ensure that these formerly abandoned, neglected and abused animals never find themselves in the shelter/rescue system again, we screen applicants so that the applicant is matched to an animal that is suited to the applicant's lifestyle. As we have learned in rescue, not every dog/cat is suited for every home. Some dogs/cats cannot go to a home with children, some dogs/cats need to go to a highly active home. We can determine the best home by reviewing the answers provided in the application and then visiting your home. Our ultimate goal at GAAR is not to just find any home for a dog/cat but to find the dog/cat its FOREVER home where it can live out the rest of its life.
ADOPTING FAQs
Spay / Neuter! It is our job at GAAR not only to find new homes for our animals but to ensure these animals never have an opportunity to breed again. All of GAAR's pets will be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption unless the animal is not of age and/or the animal has a medical condition that would prohibit sterilization at the time of adoption. Animals under 6 months of age and animals that cannot be sterilized due to a medical condition will be adopted out on a spay/neuter contract which means the adopter must agree to have the animal sterilized by a specified date.

Owners Looking to Surrender a Pet
We are unable to take owner surrendered animals at this time. However, we CAN assist you in placing your pet if you are willing to keep them until we can find a suitable home. We do this by posting your animal's information/picture on our site, screening potential adopters for you and doing all necessary paperwork. Most animals can find a new home anywhere from a few weeks to possibly a month or two but rest assured, we CAN find your animal a new home! Please consider this before taking your pet to a humane society or animal control facility. Most people would be shocked to know that approx. 58% of dogs that enter a kill shelter are euthanized and approx. 71% of cats are euthanized.
Please don't forget that you CAN make a difference - just by fostering, volunteering or donating. Every day animals are neglected and abused all around us, and with your help we hope to eliminate the suffering of all of them, one day and one heart at a time.
Here are some of our adoptable animals! We are currently taking on quite the endeavor; rescuing over thirty dogs from an up north kennel that is closing very soon and has NO heat. Most of these dogs are from the kennel, and others have been with us for a very long time! Please visit gaar.petfinder.com to see their full stories! If you know of an abused or hurt animal - or if you want more information on the organization, donation or adoption events, the Guardian Angel hotline is 745 - 332 - 9459, you can also contact us through email at
