"Ineffable poetry…beautifully stark…understated and haunting….†– Just some of the phrases that have been used to describe the music of Danish singer songwriter, Viktoria Hansen.
Viktoria learnt from an early age about the hard work, talent and drive required to become a winner. She watched as both her parents become Olympic Champions, and although she herself was extremely talented in sports, her passion lay in the performing arts. With her training and performing in singing, latin and classical dance genres and hip-hop, Viktoria got an early taste of stardom with lead roles in many professional shows across Denmark. Viktoria’s exceptional gift was spotted when she was just 16 and invited to audition for a new girl band in Berlin. The first years of her professional music career were spent touring worldwide and performing to crowds in their thousands. However, the music somehow did not seem ‘real’ to her. She not only wanted to entertain people but to also have an emotional impact on every member of her audience. She begun to write her own material “As I grew older I found out that pop/rock gave me a whole new and deeper understanding of the way I was feeling and the phases I was going through in my life. Lyrics made more and more sense to me and the journal I had been writing for years suddenly turned into songsâ€. Viktoria left the constraints of a pop girl group to pursue her solo career. She spent some time in New York where she found inspiration for new material in her lonely stay in the big city and a new sense of purpose. She could also showcase her songs at open mic nights.Viktoria will be releasing her debut album in Spring 2007. Jam packed with hits and with collaborations from Rod Bowkett, Thomas Barsoe and Martin Sutton, there are certainly no space fillers on this album. Viktoria’s songs range from the utterly beautiful “Lost my balance†about trying to find direction in life, to “Alone†which addresses the alienation felt by a small town girl experiencing the ‘big smoke’ for the first time. Then there’s the humorous “Blame the Creator†which talks about how unfair a woman’s lot can be. “My lyrics are like a diary. My album is completely honest and I couldn’t describe it any other way†says Viktoria.
At only 24 years of age, Viktoria has already accomplished a first album of such distinction as that of a veteran and, as the Scandinavian beauty says “This is just the tip of the ice-bergâ€.
