SHADOWLORD – Batavorum cd
Biography:
Outstanding 7 piece melodic black death band.
-Since 1999 they have been terrorising stages in Europe .
-Started in 1995 as a extreme black metal band they now have developed their
own style combining black, death & thrash with both classical as modern influences
-Played in the Finals of Aardschok Metal Bash 2005(Largest Dutch Metal Zine / Contest)
-The band has two vocalists;
-Cor van Maris, who is responsible for the ominous death grunting, (Sammath)
-Marit Pietersen, a female vocalist. Now don’t be afraid,
because Marit is everything but gothic female singer number one million and more;
-Shadowlord is still to be categorized in the league of dark metal
they have become less bombastic than on “Scourge of Heaven”,
and the development is this time more in the technical way, and towards
black thrash.
Yet that could also be because the volume is a little less loud than on its predecessor Scourge of Heaven. On the album the band still combines
thrash metal, death metal and Viking melodic black metal aspects:
especially the atmosphere of the keyboards remind me a lot of Dimmu Borgir’s Enthrone Darkness Triumphant , but the guitars are tuned like a
Viking metal band. (vampire mag 2006)
-The songs deal about the history of Batavorum or Nijmegen with songs
about midevil tales like Moenen en Mariken and legents from the builders of
Novio Magum, The Romans 2000 years ago.

Met teksten over de historie van Nijmegen (Batavorum, Novio Magum), een
stad die dit jaar zijn 2000 jarig bestaan viert en de thuishaven is van de band Shadowlord. Thema is het rijk van Nijmegen met 2000 jaar
geschiedenis, gesticht door de Bataven; Oppidum Batavorum (de Stad
der Batavieren), verslagen door de Romeinen. Een keizerstad waar Karel de Grote woonde en waar o.a het einde van de 80 jarige oorlog werd
bezegeld. Extra op de cd is de nederlandstalige videoclip Moenen & Mariken,
naar een oud middeleeuws wagenspel omtrent de strijd tussen het goede en het kwade.
