About Me

Born in Areia Branca (Natal), in the Northeast of Brazil, Tico da Costa is an extremely prolific singer/song writer, he is also a guitar virtuoso, a composer of instrumental music and a born-showman that can magnetize any audience as a solo performer - voice and guitar, or accompanied by his international band. Tico has been performing at The Blue Note of New York, Town Hall, Symphony Space, Knitting Factory, among others._____________________________________________________ _________________________“His light, easy tenor adorned polyryrhythmic guitar lines that could always go fast enough to suit his needs, sometimes striking the band into precarious double-time. In “Pé de Cajarana”, Mr. da Costa had the crowd chanting a percussive chorus... This was where Mr. da Costa showed himself to be a superb artisan: skillfully recreating a few minutes of a beatific locomotion that in its proper context could have stretched into hours”.Ben Ratliff - THE NEW YORK TIMES ____________________________________________________________ ___________________ ...Tico da Costa is a young man who plays music of his native Brazil with both grace and charm. As a composer performer he brings together an ease of manner and a personal style that for many will be irresistible. The interesting thing about Tico’s music is that his technique is highly sophisticated and yet his songs are completely spontaneous… the lyrics are very poetical. Philip Glass ____________________________________________________________ ___________________"Tico, I'am afraid you don't know that you composed one of the nicest songs in this century."Ana Bandolim". What you did between the first and fifth measure is incredible! Beethoven could not have done it better". Pete Seeger (Guantanamera) ____________________________________________________________ __________________“Da Costa’s guitar work is fluidly classical in a Brazilian jazz vein: clean and gentle accompaniment to his romantic lyrics with arrangements that are quite complete in themselves… Rather than a cultural blend, this is a beautiful example of Brazilian song in its simplest form, played and sung with impeccable style” Option Magazine – Los Angeles ____________________________________________________________ __________________"...Fué una notable sorpresa. Pete invitó a subir a otro artista. Pensé que sería un crimen. No había lugar.
