About Me

The International Words of Women~~~~~Mission Statement~~~~~~~~~~~We are located at 203 West 138 Street NY,NY 10031~~~~~~~~~~We meet every Thursday from 8:30-until ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~W e are the Ones to light the trail for others. We are the Ones to give hope to those who are in need. We give of ourselves with inspiration, dedication, empowerment and artistry. We are THE INTERNATIONAL WORDS OF WOMEN. Our mission is to, motivate, strengthen, teach, lead and captivate the masses with the power of the word. Poetry is an art form designed to move real reflection with the power of words, spoken word, drama, and song. We have a voice that needs to be resonated to all people to inspire growth. Our voices are not represented, can be misunderstood, non existent, and not acknowledged within Poetry. We must have the freedom to express ourselves, open our minds, reveal our hearts and just be free to show the strength of the feminine principle without hesitation, fear, embarrassment or backlash. The power of the International collective voices of women withing Poetry represents the strengths and weaknesses of us all. Our lives are filled with multitasking the many views of what a woman should be like in Poetry. We must be true to ourselves, remain conscious of differences and use this power to represent all aspects of Poetry with pride. Poetry embodies a collective of spoken word artists, writers and all literary enthusiasts. THE INTERNATIONAL WORDS OF WOMEN are a culturally diverse, worldly, group of real women who have very real perspectives in Poetry and will share the power of word with each other and the world. We have strength in voice and in verse that is intended to give real reflection and provide a helpful knowledge base. We will incorporate educational seminars designed to seek strengths, counter weaknesses and find the common ground for us all. Our mission is to be an International socio-reflective Poetry base for all women. Absolutely, no biases of skin color, place of origin, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic level, hair color, eye color, hair length, material possessions, shoes, or any other conformist secular biases that would cause members to feel uneasy. This will be our home and every woman should feel that they are home. Each invited member personally by the founder or invited members from the IWOW site are specifically invited only. Welcome aboard to a new voice in Poetry...... YoursThe International Words of Women collective is available for workshops, events and bookings within the community and abroad. Poetry and the Spirit: Ancient Mantras, Health and HealingCan a poem unravel emotion? How does a poem reveal? Can a poem actually heal? According to California poet and certified poetry therapist John Fox, plenty of evidence supports the idea that poetry does indeed heal. For the past two decades, Fox has worked with people of all ages in schools, retreat centers, hospitals, and churches, helping others find their inner poetic voices, a process masterfully summarized by the title of his first book, Finding What You Didn’t Lose. James Autry contends that "poetry gives you permission to feel," and Fox agrees. Perhaps the aim and substance of this panel is best summed up by Fox’s wise words: "There is that feeling, shared by many people, that poetry is a specialized form of art written by a special person who knows and understands complex rhythms and rhymes. . . . But we err in thinking that this exquisite artfulness means the process of poetry isn't available to each of us. . . . Somewhere in the mix of poetic expression is a place where people can come to understand that poetry is best used as a vehicle for their expression." To see more of the article go to www.nhwritersproject.org/poetryandpolitics/healthpanel.htm
