With his larger-than-life persona combined with small town charm, TV hopeful Nick "Hollywood" Hempton is making his presence felt as a star-shaped blip on entertainment radars across the country. With a talent as broad and blinding as his winning smile, and ambition as steely and flinty as his unyielding gaze, he's got industry tongues set to 'Wag!'
Nick first dipped his musical toes in the shallow end of the showbiz pool appearing as Darwin Mayflower in the stage adaptation of Michael Lehman's Hudson Hawk, inviting comparisons to Marlon Brando and Michael MacDonald for vocal and dramatic range respectively. Success in subsequent productions of "Back To the Future: The Musical", "Die Hard: On Ice!" and "End Game: The Arena Spectacular!" prompted Hempton to adopt the nom de stage Nicky Nightingale and embark on an ambitious 12 week, 9 town cross-country solo tour. Audiences were unanimous in their reception, and Nick's high-octane, full-throttle song and dance numbers had all but the most resolutely infirm vacating their seats.
With such a wealth of stage experience under his belt, Hempton is now aiming his Dazzle-beams squarely at the small screen. Bouncing onboard the Reality train, he made a stunning TV debut in a fleeting-but-fabulous stint on NBC's "America's Fattest F@%kwit", and insiders can't stop talking about his powerful portrayal of 'Dazed Bystander 2' in the upcoming docu-drama "Anne of Green Goebbels".
What's the secret to Hempton's success? "The four V's," he says with a knowing wink. "Verve, vitality, virtuosiveness, vigor, and most importantly, vim! And having the jazziest hands in the business doesn't hurt, either!", he adds with a sly smile. But has all the attention gone to Nick's head, or is he still 'Nicky from da block'? "No way! to the first part of the question, and Hell Yes, Homie! to the second part! Just ask any of my boys in the hood about how I roll when we're sucking back 30's and getting wiggy with it! I'm totally keeping it real!"
So there you have the whole Hempton package- talent, ambition, grit and sparkle, with a healthy dose of old-school attitude. If you like your TV with a bit of pizzaz, stay tuned, 'cause you never know when your pal Nick will be dropping in!
