Deep in the abyss of my black heart I shine. I shine darkly.

About Me

God Brand Religion

"I can't for the life of me imagine why God would create man,
but I can certainly fathom why man would need to create God."— Liam Sharp.
And so began my personal reflection on God, religion and history and what I have come to know through years of study and actual participation as an "active" member of the Catholic Church. My point here is not to question whether God exists, but critique man's convenient morphing and melding of the concept of God to suit his needs. Whatever God "is" is somewhat irrelevant. I am more interested in what God has appeared to "become", which is namely the most successful brand in the history of advertising! Religion is many things to many people, but there is no escaping that it is also a business, and a very successful one. God as a brand is equivalent to a super "Good Housekeeping Seal", at once justifying everything from new religions to mass genocide.

Religion is the most dangerous energy source known to humankind. The moment a person (or government or religion or organization) is convinced that God is either ordering or sanctioning a cause or project, anything goes. The history, worldwide, of religion-fueled hate, killing, and oppression is staggering. —Eugene Peterson
Former Bush speechwriter David Frum says of the president, "War had made him...a crusader after all." At the outset of the war in Iraq, George Bush entreated, "God bless our troops." In his State of the Union speech, he vowed that America would lead the war against terrorism "because this call of history has come to the right country." — Jim Wallis, Sojourner's Magazine

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Send a message, I don't bite

Add me, you can tell me
to fuck off later

I may join your group,
but I will never belong

Warn someone about me

Don't ever speak to me again
