About Me
J.R. started with his brother and 3 of his childhood friends in a R&B vocal group called, AdVerse. Having a smooth R&B edge, they started experimenting with different songs and styles. After several benefit concerts and performances at local venues, they started to expand their sound and presence. The 4 Aliquippa natives held down monthly performances at venues in Pittsburgh’s popular Strip District, and opened for national recording artists like Isyss, Biz Markie, and Mr. Cheeks. The group tallied two first place wins in Pittsburgh’s biggest urban talent show, The 106.7 WAMO Talent Showcase. Winning those titles brought on the opportunity to perform at SummerJam on two occasions, at the Chevrolet Amphitheater. The first with old school legends such as Ray, Goodman, and Brown, The Enchantments, and The Dells, the other with modern R&B/Hip-Hop artists such as Mario Wynans, The Ying Yang Twins, and Mobb Deep. Early goals being met, sights were now set on moving to NYC, but not before they caught wind of young up and coming Pittsburgh Producer, Sam C. He’s currently still on the grind producing bangin’ tracks for J.R. and others in his circle. Sam C accompanied J.R. to Queens where he recorded at platinum plus, Sound Matrix Studios, home of the well-known respected producer, Ty Fyffe, who has credits with the likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Beenie Sigel, and more. Shortly thereafter, the group disbanded and J.R. took the solo route. Moving to Queens for a short-time to promote the new look and sound, J.R. was introduced to Mr. Cheeks and Ruler Divine, who took a liking to his new sound. J.R. and Mr. Cheeks along with Ruler Divine (Main producer of Legal Drug Money- The Lost Boyz, Onyx, and other National recording artists from the east coast) have collaborated on 5 tracks thus far, some of which are currently circulating the LB mix-tape circuit. After returning home and honing his unique style with the help of some of his old group mates from AdVerse, and Will Florence Jr, J.R. then hooked up with San Diego’s own, DJ Fingaz. Once this connect was made, J.R. flew out to the west coast to colab with DJ Fingaz and his crew, who have since mixed in top-notch west coast production. Along with DJ Fingaz experience and knowledge, his additional guidance now has J.R. working with talented producers from the west, notably Dow Jones, one part of Tha Bizness (who have produced for the likes of National Recording artists 50 cent, G-unit, Nate Dogg, R. Kelly, Ne-Yo) and a few other blazin’ up and comers. So now… teaming up with Your Favorite DJ’s Favorite DJ… J.R’s sound is ready to make an impact on the national and global scene!!
