About Me

I do radio at WMBR FM in Cambridge, MA, 88.1 on the terrestrial dial. I produce a five-day show called the Late Risers Club . It's got some history . I typically do the Friday 10 a.m. to noon slot. Audio links to recent shows can be found here . Job-wise these days, sometimes you can find me icing down cold sodies for rock bands (or lugging their amps, or selling their swag) at The Middle East or checking IDs at the door of Zuzu , which is basically the Middle East's hot sister. I also do publicity/management-type stuff for The Prime Movers and The Bags . You should buy their records and go to their shows. I am always looking for additional work to keep me busy, so if you have any leads, feel free to drop me a line. I have also done some freelance writing on the side for Mercury , a Newport RI-based arts paper that is an offshoot of the Newport Daily News . Archives of past stories can be found on my blog, IndieBlack .The Bags:Lyres:The Fleshtones:God: My Pal

I haven't had cable since last summer. This is not a horrible thing since I still somehow get MSNBC and Spike. Lately it has been Countdown w/Keith Olbermann, The Shield, Hardball, 24, and The Black Donnellys. Conan still manages to shine, too. Since myspace doesn't have a radio section (they SHOULD) I will list some of my favorites, station by station: WMBR - The other Late Risers Clubs when I'm not on, Gorilla Got Me, The Intercontinental, Music For Human Beings, Culture Shock, Lullabies Help The Brain Grow, The Breakfast of Champions, Psychosomatics, Research & Development, Aural Fixation, Three Ring Circus, The James Dean Deathcar Experience, The Bovine Ska & Rocksteady Reality, Coffeetime, Lost Highway, What's Left, The Choice Is Yourz, Backwoods, American Primitive, Mellow Madness, The Lost & Found, French Toast, The Pontoon Palace, Bats In The Belfry, Time Travelling, Morning Wood (RIP), and Eoin's Brigade (RIP). WZBC - Psychotic Reactions, John Straub whenever I happen to stumble across him doing ZBC Rock, ZBC Rock, Petrina's shoegaze show (don't remember the name), and NCP. WHRB - Dinos on the Record Hospital. That's really all that needs to be said. WFMU - The Best Show On WFMU with Tom Scharpling, The Cherry Blossom Clinic, Three Chord Monte, Music To Spazz By, The Evan "Funk" Davies Show, and Teenage Wasteland. WHJY - Soundcheck with Big Jim Stearns. KXLU - whenever Peter Choyce fills in. WBZ - The Paul Sullivan Show and The Steve LaVelle Broadcast.

Books:

I've enjoyed stuff by James Ellroy, Leslie Marmon Silko, Michael Chabon, Milan Kundera, Charles Bukowski, Roddy Doyle, Lester Bangs, Yann Martel, Tom Robbins, Elmore Leonard, Legs McNeil, Jennifer Osborne, Pete Hammill. Just re-read Michael Patrick MacDonald's All Souls and just started Douglas Brinkley's The Great Deluge - Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Heroes:

Keith Olbermann and Seafood Jones
