What is your Spirit Card?
You are the Magician card. Magick is the use of the will to effect change in reality. The will is the ability to direct knowledge and experience towards an end goal. The Magician is capable of manipulating his environment because he knows it so well. He affects the thoughts and emotions of those around him. Therefore, the Magician is often thought of as an artist, writing or speaking in a way that strongly influences others. The Magician understands how to bring concepts into form and how to express metaphysical concepts in a physical way. He is seen with the symbols of each suit: a disk, a cup, a sword and a wand. These symbols are each a physical expression of a concept. They are The Magician's tools. Following after The Fool, The Magician acts as a messenger. His planet is Mercury, who is Messenger of the Gods. He brings The Fool into the new world that The Fool seeks. The Magician represents the act of creation. Because he can use his knowledge to form something new, he seems to be able to make a thing appear out of a void.

I'd like to meet:
Queen Elizabeth I, Christopher Marlowe, Edward De Vere, & William Shakespeare, and settle this shit once and for all.
"Celia, Celia" by Adrian Mitchell
When I am sad and weary,
When I think all hope has gone,
When I walk along High Holborn,
I think of you with nothing on.
Music:
FRANZ
Franz Liszt composed and performed some of the most darkly beautiful, haunting music I have ever heard. Women (and some men) swooned when he played...
TOM
I love everything Tom Waits has done, from "Closing Time" to his most recent release. He is also, in my opinion, a fine actor. I particularly like his compositions for theatre. Bertolt Brecht would most certainly seek him out to collaborate with if he weren't too busy being dead.
"Frank's Wild Years" is his masterpiece.
SYD
Syd Barrett produced visual music with The Pink Floyd and on his own until he gave it up in 1974. Entirely his own artist, entirely himself in his music.
Syd Barrett with Pink Floyd - "Arnold Layne"
KATE
I love Kate Bush and I don't care who knows it. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols said of her,"She's fucking Brilliant! A true original."
She released her first album, "The Kick Inside", at the age of 19.
Kate's music is a dream: chimerical, crazy, sexy, absurd, beautiful, dark, bright, moody, turbulent, wierd, and soothing; often all at once.
Kate Bush - "The Infant Kiss"
ANJA
Anja Garbarek is a recent discovery of mine, though she's been recording since 1992. She is the daughter of Jazz Sax legend, Jan Garbarek. She trained as an actor. Her music is quirky, beautiful, poetic trip-hop.
ROBYN
Rolling Stone says, "Robyn Hitchcock's songs are a lot like the genetic code: they're tough to crack, but the secret of life is in there somewhere."
The Soft Boys - "Only the Stones Remain"
The Soft Boys - "You'll Have to Go Sideways"
An unstoppable songwriter, Robyn has recorded some 29 or so albums, both on his own, and with others; with his original band, The Soft Boys, then the Egyptians, with Tim Keegan, with Deni Bonet, with Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, on "Spooked".
Of his latest batch of songs with the Venus 3, "Ole Tarantula", he describes them as, "Sadness cloaked in Fun; but under that Fun, More Sadness".
Robyn Live on "Morning Becomes Eclectic"
Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3 - "Adventure Rocketship"

Heroes:
These are those from whom I draw energy and inspiration:
KIT
Poet. Smoker. Spy. Christopher Marlowe single-handedly super-charged the theatre scene in late Elizabethan England. His sweep and scope are unparalelled, given what had come before him; he is the most credible of the Authorship candidates for the works of Shakespeare, as he is the only one who was a professional playwright.
Some believe his death in 1593 was faked...
THE DUDE
The Dude abides as the living picture of the Zen Fool.
ERIK
Erik Magnus Lensherr, better known as Magneto, stands as a symbol of uncompromising vision; of the individual freak against the paranoid status quo; Magneto is a reminder to all to retain their individuality, and as a warning against letting one's cause eclipse one's compassion.
RYSZARD
Ryszard Cieslak, the Holy Actor of Jerzy Grotowski's Theatre of Thirteen Rows; a man I had the pleasure of working with for six months on an adaptation of Gorki's "Lower Depths" which we called "Ash Wednesday".
A metaphoric thinker and a master of physical / emotional / spirtual expression in his work onstage.
Rest in peace.
STAS
Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (or Witkacy, as he called himself to differentiate himself from his well-known father)was an artist to the core: playwright, painter, poet, photographer, philosopher, portraitist, and psychotropic adventurer. He lived and died entirely on his own terms.
His last words were, "I can't go on living as less than myself."
